Lacie mini ethernet disk

Post by mattk69 » Mon Feb 11, 2008 8:13 pm

Anyone who has got a Lacie and is not happy (as im not) about there lack of support of firmware upgrades please contact and complain as i have done. Then hopefully the more people that complain the more likely they are to update it quicker.
Its a joke that they havent updated us to the latest twonky version when most other manufacturers already has. And were still waiting for the previous version of Twonky .

There is an upgrade available now:
http://www.lacie.com/fi/support/drivers ... m?id=10105

I have 1.1.1 fw and have previously applied the 4.4.2 Twonky patch and the config dialog patch.

When I try the 1.1.2 firmware update I get message
"This update can't be applied to this version of the product, please install the 1.0.10 patch, prior to applying this update."

The 'latest' LaCie update, I use that term loosely, only includes TwonkyVision v4.4.2, so if you have applied the beta patches then you will not gain anything from the update functionality wise. If you want to apply the official LaCie firmware then you can download the v1.0.10 firmware from here:

http://rapidshare.com/files/91563106/Et ... igned.html

After you have applied the 'latest' LaCie firmware you can re-apply the TwonkyVision Administration Page so that you can have better control over your shared folders structure.

If, like the original poster, you are not satisfied with LaCie's support then you can, like me, let LaCie know. It would be interesting to know why after having the v4.4.2 software since last September they have only just released it officially. It may be, judging by the posts in the Media Server threads, that LaCie does not consider the latest releases stable enough. But it would be nice to know why!!!

Since the update it wont let me add, delete or edit anything on the disk. It just says"you need permission to perform this task". I upated to 1.2 and i put twonky admin on it. Also before the update everytime i turned my laptpop on i had to sign in to my mapped drive. But now it seems to log me straight in without putting the password in . I think this may have something to do with it as it may not see me as the admin user

Matt,

Have you tried accessing the LaCie via Microsoft Windows Network (Workgroup or whatever you have named it)? After I had updated the firmware I couldn't login until after I had rebooted the PC, then everything was fine.

I used to map the network drive, but after a while didn't see the point, after all it's no hardship to login to add, remove or edit files.

ive tried connecting through the network places and its the same as my mapped drive . I can see all my files but cant edit or add to any folders it just says u need permission to perform this action. I have restarted the laptop and the lacie but it still does the same thing.

Have you checked the security settings for the share folder (in Windows) to ensure you have special permissions settings as follows:

Code: Select all

root (Unix User\root) Full Control
users (Unix Group\users) Read & Execute
Everyone Read & Execute
Also worth checking your user/share settings on the LaCie admin pages to ensure nothing's been changed/corrupted. Other than that, I'm not sure why you are getting this.

Have you tried resetting the admin password on the LaCie configuration page? You should be getting a login box, in Windows, when you first attempt to connect to the LaCie.

Thanks for your help Caoimhghin but i found out what it was after virtually going through the whole config and trying different settings.
On the shares page my folder where all the films and music is kept the box "enable guest account" was somehow ticked. I unticked this box and double clicked my folder and low and behold it asked for a user and password where it wasnt before. And now it all works fine. I have changed all my films to end in MPG and they all work now with the PS3 so im now a happy bunny.

Contact support through the system on their website to get a copy.
