Question regarding how to setup Twonky on my Central Axis

Find and install a firmware ver that allows telnet or putty to your NAS.

http://www.openmss.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1026
try here or other fourms.. Maxtors newist ver might allow it also.. Here how to check if it right..

Open the Maxtor Setup HTML page.
click Advance Feautres
click Advance Config
click Services

Both check marks should be checked in the;
dropbear box's
utelnetd box's
bftpd box's

Make sure the box at the bottom is unchecked for; Auth for Telnet access.

Done in the nas.

Download putty.exe and install...
Try loging into your NAS via telne or putty... by NAS Address.. 192.168.1.100.... user name: root / password: root... if u get in thats all u need to check... close putty/telnet..

Now good luck here... If u cant find it let me know and ill email them to you., just send me your email..

FIND the NASSETUP file's for twonky... I suggest intalling the ver 4.*.* instead of ver 5. seems to be less buggy..
They may me impossiable to find..

After the NASSETUP installs twonky FOR YOU itself.. your done..
Goto the http:NASADDRESS:9000/setup.html page for adding share's and ect...

Thanks for posting that you have it working. I was looking to purchase this drive to stream movies to my PS3, but was hesitant about purchasing it. What have you done with the drive? What are you sharing and where are you sharing it to? What issues should I be aware of with the drive?

Thanks for any info!

Hi all,

i´m not able to install twonky server 5.0.55 on my maxtor shared storage running central axis firmware 3.5.74

the nassetup will start but shows an error:
sh: can't open /share/Public/twonky/nas-installer

it seems that the install.files are not copied to the NAS.

is there a manual way to install twonky instead of using nassetup? :|

thx in adance

On my Maxtor Central Access web admin page, I am unable to locate 'Advanced Config' under 'Advanced Features'. What version of software / firmware is used in order to access this area to enable telnet? I've just ran into the same complaints about the CA lack of support on features they advertise. Trying to get my XBOX 360 to work with the NAS...

Any help you can provide is appreciated.

Yappa I'm having the same issue. I've installed the openmss firmware for 3.5.74 and the exact thing happens when i try to run NASsetup.

Did you ever find a solution to this?

Anyone yet managed to install the latest Twonky server onto any MSS II, especially running 3.5.74? I managed to get 4.11 onto it, but nothing later.

So, I've installed the correct firmware, have telnet / ssh access and have successfully installed TwonkyMediaServer version 4.4.11. I'm unable to access the configuration page though. I've ssh'd to the CentralAxis and have confirmed that it's installed, I've manually ran the startup script just in case, and I still get a 404 not found when attempting to connect to http://nas_ip:9000/configpage/index.html as well as http://nas_ip:9000/setup.html.

Has anyone ran into this issue, and if so is there any recommendations as to what I may be doing wrong?

Anyone getting the Maxtor Central Axis to cooperate yet? I'm still trying to figure out how to get any usable media server to install, or even be able to telnet to it. Version 3.5.74

Not sure whether this helps, as I am not sure I understand what is going on here.

I installed a customised version of 3.5.74 from the OpenMSS site
http://www.openmss.org/forum/viewtopic. ... 1150#p5612

And then installed twonkmediamss2 - 4.4.11 via SSH.

Even after restarting the MSS Twonkymedia was not running.

So I decided to enable the Maxtor media server under "Shared Folder Management" - "Manage Digital Content" just to see if I could some media server running.

Lo and Behold Twonky appeared as a UPnP server on my Windows network.

Double clicking on that opened my browser with a URL of

http://nas_ip:9000/webbrowse with the Twonky web page?

:?

Ok, so here's my problem....

Installed a modified version of the latest version of the firmware on my central axis which all went ok...

installed http://www.twonkyforum.com/unsupported/ ... 5.0.68.zip onto the NAS all ok...

set up the install of twonky so that it looked at all the right places.

when I perform a rebuild on the database twonky finds all of the files correctly. This lasts for the time that it takes to to the rebuild. once the rebuild has finished i can see no files at all.

any help muchly appreciated...
