TwonkyMediaServer 5 bricks Buffalo Terastation LIve

Post by schwurbel » Wed Feb 25, 2009 8:11 am

I installed TwonkyMediaServer 5 on my Terastation - and bricked it!

The reason is that by default Twonky uses a hidden folder in the user's home directory for indexing the media. That folder happens to be on a small partition holding the OS (r/root). The partition quickly ran full, as my media collection is quite large.

It was impossible to boot or restore the firmware (and thereby the root fs) with the usual means. It took me several days of work, some new hardware (spare drives and a controller to connect the drives to my laptop) and a some bad nights as I really like my data...

What is the option to set the index directory? I didn't find any docs on that.

Into the bargain, I think Twonky guys should change the defaults here, and use the installation dir for indexing. Or at least some directory on the bigger RAID partition. The described error will not be fixable for not Linux / RAID savvy peopole.
