Twonky 6.0.32 Streaming via Internet possible and also not

Post by niles » Tue Jul 05, 2011 7:59 am

Hello,
I have a problem with my Twonkyserver 6.0.32 running on my Buffalo linkstation. I would like to stream my music via internet. I was editing my ini-file ans also can access the webpage, but when I want to start a musicstream I get a message that a connection to the server is not possible. If I do the same, using the forwarded port for the internal network (where I have to exchange 192.168.1.121:9001 to http://www.myadress.dyndns.com:9001), it works fine. Does anybody has an idea how to make this working for the external port, where I don't have to change the address manually every time?

Thanks,

Niles

I am having the exact same problem and I want to see if there is an answer to that. My Twonky is 6.0.30 on DLink NAS (DNS-323).

Basically, if I go to Twonky from outside using external IP (with port forwarding of course), http://72.xxx.xxx.xxx:9000/, and select mobile browser, then at that point the url switched to internal IP, 192.168.0.120 in my case, so are all links under that, including songs.

http://192.168.1.120:9000/webbrowse-n95/O0$1

At each song's level, of course i have no problems playing them when I am on internal network, but not if I outside home, unless I modify the url to replace 192.168.0.120 with my external IP (which then brings up QuickTime play and plays smoothly after that).

There must be a tweak to make all the urls generated in the form of external IP so I don't have to modify every url that I want to play, and I am eager to hear opinions from this forum.

btw, when this is resolved, we essentially have our music in our private cloud (home NAS, Twonky) so we can play anytime anywhere we want to listen.

Have you configured Twonky to allow remote access?

See here-http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... 497#p35205

Note- some people have said that the dyndns option must include the port number contrary to what the link says. Do a forum search on 'remote access' to find what has and has not worked for various people.

the link is very helpful, however the remote streaming is still not working for me because IP switched to local LAN IP when I browse to music.

Here is what I did:
1. locate twonkymedia-server.ini file under "/mnt/HD_a2/twonky/appdata/twonkymedia" (I am pretty sure this is the right file, although there is another twonkymedia-server.ini under "/mnt/HD_a2/twonky")

2. made the following changes:
# enable https remote connections
enabletls=0
# dynamic dns prefix for remote access, including http://
dyndns=http://72.xxx.xxx.xxx:9100
# enable remote access
remoteaccess=1
# http server port for remote access
httpremoteport=9100
I have an almost-static IP so I didn't bother with DYNDNS. I also tried not to include port number 9100 in dyndns= but didn't work either.

3. on my router i forwarded port 9100 to port 9000 of NAS's IP

again, everything works interally on LAN, but if type in http://72.xxx.xxx.xxx:9100, after selecting mobile or PC browser, all links have 192.168.0.120 in it so they are not accssible from outside.

I think that is the problem. Twonky on your NAS is expecting the remote requests to come in on port 9100. Port 9000 is for local traffic. Forwarding to port 9000 I would guess give all links with 192.168.0.120 as you are seeing. You need to forward to port 9100 on your router to port 9100 on your NAS not port 9000.

Yes, that port forward resolved the issue, thank you Parnott :D

btw, I had to EXECLUDE port 9100 from dyndns url to make it work.

So, my verified steps are:
1. locate twonkymedia-server.ini file under "/mnt/HD_a2/twonky/appdata/twonkymedia"

2. made the following changes:
# enable https remote connections
enabletls=0
# dynamic dns prefix for remote access, including http:// but NOT to include port number
dyndns=http://72.xxx.xxx.xxx
# enable remote access
remoteaccess=1
# http server port for remote access
httpremoteport=9100

3. on my router i forwarded port 9100 to port 9100 of NAS's IP

restart Twonky media server and enjoy!
