4.4 Beta 4 released

Post by twonky-christian » Fri Jun 08, 2007 4:03 pm

Hi,

we have now released 4.4 Beta 4:
http://www.twonkyvision.com/Download/Tw ... x-4-4.html

What's new in Version 4.4
-------------------------

new Features:
+ PS3 support (MP3,WMA,JPG,MPEG1,MPEG2,some MPEG4), no Internet Radio possible
+ replaced javascript mediabrowser by generated HTML pages (webbrowse)
+ new remote access via web browser
set dyndns in .ini file to http://myhome.dyndns.org:9100
set httpremoteport in .ini file to 9100
forward 9100 on the firewall to the server
use http://myhome.dynfns.org:9100/webbrowse to access content
you should also set username and pwd on the config pages for secure access
you may use stunnel as well to protect the access even more...

Changes:
o changed DSM-320 communication with the server as the device crashed from time to time
o added duration for most mpeg files, this enables the PS3 to FF/REW
o improved mpeg parser
o on Windows now use Application Data folder for database and other app data, should no
longer require to start as Admin on VISTA now

Bug fixes:
- sort criteria for playlists fixed
- artist removed from default sort criteria
- date removed from default sort criteria
- fixed device description
- fixed default extension for video playlists
- fixed m4v mime type
- fixed randomize playlists
- ts files should work now on PS3
- fixed duration for mp3 with large headers
- fixed albumart supprot for PS3

Thanks
Christian

Hi Christian, thanks again for this new build.

I'm using TM 4.4 b4 on WinXP and serving to PS3.

Here are some problems/suggestions:

- Could you allow to *not* have "All Pictures", "All Video" and "All Music" in the navigation tree? If I remove their labels, as I do for "Playlist" and "-ALL-" in Advanced Setup > Naming, they still show up in the directory tree somehow. That would be useful for people who will never browse those entries and would be cleaning the navigation tree a little.

- The suggestion by starhubble is very much needed imho, he says:
Also... here is something I really think should be fixed.

Let's say I want to add a directory to the share, for example:

D:\Music\Mp3\Blub\

This directory contains a number of files...

a.mp3
b.mp3
c.mp3

I add the directory to the share and set it up as "Music-Only", which tells Twonky that it should be displayed under the Music root folder.

Now, the problem is that Twonky will not add this directory to the Music root folder, but rather the files it contains:

Music\

a.mp3
b.mp3
c.mp3

There should be a way of making the directory appear as a subdirectory under the root folder:

Music\Blub\

a.mp3
b.mp3
c.mp3

If all shared music files are shoved directly into the root folder things get real messy.
I really would love to see those subdirectories in the navigation tree too, much more intuitive imho.

- There is still a problem for displaying MP3 tags with japanese language in UTF-8 (unicode), they display weird chinese ideograms when they should display japanese katakana/hiragana.
I have posted a sample mp3 with japanese trackname & japanese filename that shows the problem on the PS3 XMB:
http://videoff7.free.fr/mp3.rar
The japanese tags are OK on the PS3 if I use another media server application called "TVersity" or put the media on SD card and feed the PS3 directly so i think it rules out a problem of the mp3 files themselves.
Also, i see the exact same tag display problem on those tracks if I browse via http://192.168.1.2:9000/webbrowse , so a ps3 isn't needed to detect the bug.

On this new beta4, standard mpeg rw/ff works OK, it seems evertyhing MPEG is supported OK now between TM & PS3.

Now if only there was a way to transcode divx/xvid with Twonky...

Thanks for your support.
See you,

TSR

WOW! TwonkyChristian, I am utterly impressed...

I am SO thrilled! I just played 2 xvids, 1 divx and my MP4 AVC test-file on my PS3!

It is even offering me some of the 3GPs stored on the same machine, although the PS3 is failing to play those...

Now, its of to buy this wonderful software for me.

/Nc, who is much too excited to write praises in German

Edit:  Just realised that someone had transcoded some of the xvids, which was why they played on the PS3. Still, I'm happy ...

Why does the webbrowse function rewrite the URLs to the listening address of the server? It would be much more flexible if they used the url used by the browser in the first place. in that way all you need to get remote access is a port forward in an ssh-tunnel. The alternative MediaBrowser.js that was posted here in the forums did just that - that was the first time I could easily use Twonky from work. Is that possible to at least make as an option?

Does not see .ts Files anymore

Post by mcreim » Sat Jun 09, 2007 7:47 pm

I just installed beta 4 on my x86-Linux. Before that I used beta 3 which had no problems in playing .ts-files on my ps3.
Now the beta 4 does not find any .ts in my directorys. I did not change the config, just rescanned the directorys.
Do I have to mount the directory with the ts in again?

Greetings

Hi,

on a second thought:

how does ssh-tunnel work.

do you access a local ip with a redirected port, like
http://127.0.0.1:9876/webbrowse ?

If yes - you can do exactly this with the current solution, just set the
dyndns entry to
dyndns=http://127.0.0.1:9876

4.4 beta 4 fixes the problem I had with track ordering being disregarded with ID3v1 metadata.

Very nice job, and thanks!

Edit: Whups, I spoke too soon. The tracks are displayed in the right order in the web browse view, but they are not shown in the right order on the PS3.

Maybe the PS3 itself is sensitive to the metadata and tries to re-order the tracks for some reason?

Ah, no, I've figured out what it's doing.

It appears to be ordering the tracks according to the numbers assign internally by TwonkyMedia Server..

i.e.,

I've got an album that has URLs encoded as follows:

http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... rizona.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 20Wall.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... %20Air.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 20Love.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... Ladder.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 20Time.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... ullaby.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 20Polk.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 0Today.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 0Place.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... Mirror.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 20mix).mp3

but instead of appearing in that order, the PS3 is rendering them in sort order by URL, as follows:

http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 20Time.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 0Place.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... %20Air.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... Mirror.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 20Love.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 20mix).mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 0Today.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... ullaby.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... rizona.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... Ladder.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 20Wall.mp3
http://192.168.1.102:9000/disk/music/O1 ... 20Polk.mp3

And this ordering is preserved whether I view through 'Artist', 'Album', or 'Folder'.

Any ideas?

hi - on the remote access there is a small into in the revision history

set
httpremoteport to 9100

set username and pwd on the web config pages

get a Dyndns domain like tvhome.dyndns.org

place a port forward in your router/gateway to port 9100 on the machine where twonkymedia runs

configure the Dyndns client in your router/gateway

set dyndns=http://tvhome.dyndns.org/9100 in twonkymedia

TV 4.4B4 on Fritz.Box 7170 with D-Link 320rd Client

Post by Ronald_0815 » Sun Jun 10, 2007 10:24 am

Hi,

due to the breakup of the communication between the Fritz.Box and the 320RD in version 4.3 I tested the new 4.4B4.

The following bug in the server appears:
While the rescan of the dirs everything seems fine with reloading the (i) page of the server all the music dirs are added. They are browseable with D-Link and PC-browser.
After rescan is completed the (i) page content is at 0 files.
With 5 tries of recanning I had once a red message displayed in the (i)-page, but it refreshed too shortly so that I could not note it down or make a screen-copy.

My system contians 11000 MP3 and one video.
I have added 48 MB of swap-space to the memory.
The database has a size of 6 MB. The file 4.4 Beta 4 is empty.

Comments??

Ronald

Basically that's how it works, you do a port forward to some port on your local machine to the actual ip and port of the twonkyserver. Then you access http://localhost:localport/webbrowse. So your approach may work. I will test it with the next beta if you fix the DSM-320 problems by then..

Otherwise i must say that the flash based player that the alternative solution posted here used was more appealing than the new webbrowse functionality. Is there a possibility to be able to plug-in that solution (i.e. the old MediaBrowser) in the new twonky?

How have you managed that? I've rebuilt my whole library and can't see any album art. I have the art both in the directory as folder.jpg, and embedded into the mp3s in the ID3v2 tag.

so far this has been the best experience ive had in the last 3 weeks. i had an intermittent connection issue but resolved that by putting in the IP of the server in the config.

i would gladly pay big money for a ps3 specific version that does not even display the unsupported files in the XMB .. besides that i cannot think of anything else this server would need to do on the ps3 side.

Hello again :)

I don't know if that's my "personal problem" but album art is displayed on Twonky logo (left upper corner). I have in each folder file named "Folder.jpg".
Is there possibility to move it?

Nope, same here - the art covers the twonkyvision logo in the top left corner.

Also the pictures browsing doesn't render properly in Firefox 1.5.0.12 on Windows. You get the first few rows of thumbnails, but no scroll bars to allow you to see the rest of the images. It seems to display ok in IE so looks like it's just a HTML/CSS compatibility issue. If you have a folder with sub-folders and pictures then the thumbnails start in the middle of the window with the sub-folders hidden behind them!

Seems to work great for me so far though, thanks :D

Weird problem. Since I installed Beta 4, the configuration page is ignoring any changes I make. As soon as I restart the server, everything is back to the default settings. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, but no luck. Anyone?

I've noticed that there doesn't seem to be a way to completely uninstall TwonkyVision. The password, for example, is saved. Any way I can wipe it out entirely? I think there might be a conflict or something.

Funny. I installed 4.3 again, and it works. For some reason 4.4 does not save my configuration changes!

I used Media Monkey. It can find album art on Amazon. Or you can add art you find elsewhere. It adds it to the MP3 files themselves.

i've tried re-installing and rebuilding my dbase a few times, and i still can't get album art to show up on the ps3. i have a mix of mp3s with embedded art (dont with mediamonkey), and folders with folder.jpg, etc. - none of them work.

Using webbrowse I can see the album art show up on top of the top-left logo, like other users have reported.

configpage/index.htm says I'm running 4.4 beta 4.

any ideas on what else to try to get the art to show up on the ps3 itself?

So, what exactly is needed to get album art working? Folder.jpg in the music album folder or direct implementation of album art in the music files?

Will either of these methods work?

no i wasn't, thanks for the tip. i do see the album art for each track when when viewing a list of tracks, and in the bottom left corner when playing those tracks.

i hope this gets fixed as well... it's most useful to view the album art when browsing albums, not tracks.

is there no way for twonky to serve an image for an arbitrary folder, such as an album folder, or even it's parent folder? ie. can't this be fixed by twonky?

My twonky software works great streaming to my PS3
But is their a way to watch VIDEO_TS files all in one time? (with subtitels?) or is this a PS3 software issue? because i can now only watch the compleed (dvd) .ts file using mpeg stream clip 1.8 and convert the files to one (.ts) stream.

Okay, I reinstalled Windows (clean format from scratch) and tried again with version 4.4 beta 4, but it still doesn't save any changes I make! How odd is that? 4.3 works fine. File access problem? But why only with beta 4?

Well I think this is client side problem, as no other mediaserver does this either (the only one that does serve album art during browsing, as far as I am aware, is Nero Mediahome).

Except we are still missing the broken search feature.

Could Twonky please advice if this will come back or if it's gone for ever.

hoping on your help,

thanks!
Actually seems I had 4.4 Beta 3 and for some reason the search feature was broken. Now I installed 4.4 Beta 4 and the search feature is back working with my Roku clients. Great! Immediately purchased a license :)

HI,

Works great this new version !

Ok and some questions :

When I set a username password on the configuration pages it also ask for username and password when I enter http://name:9100/webbrowse.
Is this normal and can this be changed ?

When I select de pictures from a browser (remotely) I am missing a scrollbar.

Thanks Wouter.

Christian, I would really appreciate if you could let me know what you think about the points and bugs I report in post n°2 of this thread.
Thanks,

how does ssh-tunnel work.

do you access a local ip with a redirected port, like
http://127.0.0.1:9876/webbrowse ?

If yes - you can do exactly this with the current solution, just set the
dyndns entry to
dyndns=http://127.0.0.1:9876

On a third thought - if you like me have two nics in the server and only want to bind twonky to the LAN interface (192.168.1.1) your approach won't work, since twonky won't be listening to 127.0.0.1. Can Twonky listen to two given interfaces, 192.168.1.1 and 127.0.0.1?

Either way it would be much smoother and less complicated if twonky simply generated urls like the ones used in the browser in the first place.
