PS3: 4.4: MP4 Files some not playing (UNSUPPORTED in list)

Weird problem.

nothing has changed in my setup apart from PS3 Firmware 1.9 but I think we can eliminate that.

I have been converting all my media with PS3 Video9 and until recently all has been well. Now all new converted files are not available under Twonky / PS3, converts prior to the 1.9 update work great. Again I think it is a coincidence.

Here are the outputs from MPlayers `midentify` on linux

[root@pupster TOOLS]# ./midentify A.mp4
ID_VIDEO_ID=0
ID_AUDIO_ID=1
ID_FILENAME=A.mp4
ID_DEMUXER=mov
ID_VIDEO_FORMAT=avc1
ID_VIDEO_BITRATE=0
ID_VIDEO_WIDTH=576
ID_VIDEO_HEIGHT=320
ID_VIDEO_FPS=23.976
ID_VIDEO_ASPECT=0.0000
ID_AUDIO_FORMAT=mp4a
ID_AUDIO_BITRATE=0
ID_AUDIO_RATE=44100
ID_AUDIO_NCH=2
ID_LENGTH=5033.19
ID_VIDEO_CODEC=ffh264
ID_AUDIO_BITRATE=128000
ID_AUDIO_RATE=44100
ID_AUDIO_NCH=2
ID_AUDIO_CODEC=faad

[root@pupster TOOLS]# ./midentify B.mp4
ID_VIDEO_ID=0
ID_AUDIO_ID=1
ID_FILENAME=B.mp4
ID_DEMUXER=mov
ID_VIDEO_FORMAT=avc1
ID_VIDEO_BITRATE=0
ID_VIDEO_WIDTH=1280
ID_VIDEO_HEIGHT=532
ID_VIDEO_FPS=23.976
ID_VIDEO_ASPECT=2.3947
ID_AUDIO_FORMAT=mp4a
ID_AUDIO_BITRATE=0
ID_AUDIO_RATE=48000
ID_AUDIO_NCH=2
ID_LENGTH=60.94
ID_VIDEO_CODEC=ffh264
ID_AUDIO_BITRATE=128000
ID_AUDIO_RATE=48000
ID_AUDIO_NCH=2
ID_AUDIO_CODEC=faad

A.mp4 doesnt work but B.mp4 does, however both video files work under VLC player and other things. XBMC does NOT play A.mp4 either.

If you need more info please let me know and I will provide.

ok is here is the update.

Twonky for linux DOES NOT properly rescan content.

The files I had were originally in avi format, after converting them they had the same name all except the .avi extension, they are now .mp4.

Twonky assumed they were still AVI files and thus showed them as `unsupported`.

A rescan didnt fix it. I had to delete the .db file and cache and then rescan and the content returned and is playable.

I had noticed this before with 1 file but put it down to something else completely.

so if doubt, delte db and rescan for best results.

So back to being a happy payed up owner of Twonky + PS3 :)

Thanks

komp, can you clarify exactly which files to delete? I'm going to give your suggestion a try but I don't want to cause any damage...

I'm unable to stream my AVC mp4 files from my NAS (HP MediaVault) to my PS3. They show up as Unsupported Data, though I can play them fine from a thumbdrive.

I haven't had a problem streaming AAC MP4's from my D-Link DNS-323 NAS to my PS3 v 1.9 using Twonky 4.4. I converted them from AVI using SUPER (http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html) at its default "Sony - PS3" settings:

H.264/AAC video, AAC audio; video: 720x480, 2016 kbps bitrate, 29.97 fps; audio: stereo, 44100 sampling freq., 128 kbps

jensph, I have the same problem. I'm running Twonky 4.4 on my Asus wl-500gp with Oleg firmware. The strange thing for me is that my PS3 will play the exact same mp4 files if they are running on Twonky 4.4 on my PC (Windows XP).

I was talking to Twonky support. They told me to check how the PS3 was deetected by Twonky (in the client/security menu). But both Twonky instances detected the PS3 properly. I'll update you if anything new comes up.

Btw. My mp3 and jpg files play perfectly from both Twonky servers.

(I think you mean H.264/AVC video...)

I guess it somehow depends on our NAS. What factor could be relevant?

Please do!

Mine do as well. It's just video that's a problem.

sorry jensph I have been away...

This is what I deleted, then rescanned.

[root@pupster TwonkyVision]# ll twonkymedia.db/
total 7304
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 Jul 7 16:49 4.4
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jul 26 19:45 cache
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jul 26 20:50 temp
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7071744 Aug 15 19:17 twonkymedia.main.db
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 379130 Jul 30 22:30 twonkymedia.main.playlists
[root@pupster TwonkyVision]# pwd
/usr/local/TwonkyVision
[root@pupster TwonkyVision]#

i deleted the twonkymedia.main.db file and restarted Twonky. A rescan soon fixed up the issues

I know this thread hasnt been touched for a while, but i came across it with what seems like a similar issue, and after several hours, i think i have *A* solution. I have a linkstation live (preinstalled with Twonky), a PS3, and a mac. Up till recently all video played fine straight off the Linkstation onto the PS3. Then one day it just stopped, and had the whole "unsupported" thing. Didnt particularly want to rebuild the db etc, but was running out of options. Then i noticed that on the Twonky admin console, under 'client/security', my PS3 was listed as generic DLNA. Changed this to PS3, and disabled the TwonkyPlayer listed there (incase theres some ip conflicts). Restart the server, and sorted!
