TM loses configuration info

Post by NiteFlame » Sun Sep 23, 2007 7:23 pm

Hello,

since I put my TM installation back onto a windows machine, I have a very annoying problem. After rebooting the machine, TM has lost its configuration data (license, shares, name, etc.). I have to completely redo the configuration work after every reboot. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Markus

Mine just started doing this today too, it has also started duplicating.... By this I mean that if I click the link to get to the config page it does not get to the config page of the process running as a service it starts another process with the owner as my username. Maybe this is why the config is not there?

In case it matters all I did today was plug in a new Roku Soundbridge

Any ideas would be greatly welcome

Same problem

Post by jhuedder » Thu Oct 25, 2007 7:26 pm

My system loses its configuration at every reboot.

I use TwonkyMediaServer 4.4.1 on Windows Small Business Server 2003.

There is another point with my installation: I run Twonky as a service but the twonkyvision-mediaserver.ini is in the "Documents and Settings/Administrator/" branch (maybe because I installed it as Administrator). Doesn't that make a problem starting the service after reboot? Is that part of my problem?

Fixed !?

I just tried to make a change on the TwonkyMedia Service: it was started using the 'System'-account. I changed it to use the Administrator-account (thats the account I installed it with) and after a reboot my configuration wasn't lost. Let's see if this also works after the next couple of reboots ...

Seems to be after the upgrade to media server

I think I have solved this now on my PC..

I found that my desktop icon was pointing to the twonkymediaserver.exe instead of the .html page that the start menu now starts. This meant that clicking the icon created a new process, which I think was started with the user I was logged in as and so forgot all the previous settings that were registered against the service. I deleted the icon and remade the shortcut from the start menu and now it all seems stable again. I have rebooted several times and all seems OK.

I can only assume that the desktop icon (that I made) wasn't deleted when I upgraded to media server and it then located on the exe file automatically...

This is only a theory that seems to work for me, I hope it helps

Does it copy from TwonkyMedia-default.ini?

Post by therathouse » Sat Nov 10, 2007 10:42 am

OK so the fix I posted lasted for a few weeks (several reboots in between so I don't think its related to restarting) then I noticed it was off again.... ...however if it helps when I checked the config I saw that the search folder was back to c:\OurMusic which I think is my standard but no one elses so I searched, and along side TwonkyVision-MediaServer.ini I found TwonkyMedia-default.ini which contained the above path.

So my latest theory is that in some circumstances (as yet unknown) it overwrites the TwonkyVision-MediaServer.ini with the TwonkyMedia-default.ini . So I set up my server again, re-added the licence and paths then copied TwonkyVision-MediaServer.ini over the top of TwonkyMedia-default.ini .

To track if this happens I edited the text at the top of the TwonkyMedia-default.ini to see if this appears in the TwonkyVision-MediaServer.ini .

The only problem is that I cannot force this to happen, I tried service restart (from admin tool and twonky config page tool), server restarts, PC restarts, PC power off all seems OK so I'll post again to let you know the outcome.
