PS3 - ALWAYS DISCONNECTED

Post by ZDSL » Tue Oct 16, 2007 9:58 am

Hello everybody,

I'm experiencing a lot of troubles with my Ps3 and twonky. It use to work fine at the begining but now the PS3 is always disconnected after a moment (variable from a few seconds to a few minutes) when I'm playing music. :( .
I can see my folders, browse them (most of the time), lauch the play and then ... disconnected

My conf: PC WXPSP2 - PS3 - Wired LAN

Thanks for help

You need to establish if the error is at network hardware level (most likely) or software level.

The easiest way, is to use the PING command, to see if your server PC (XP) can always see the PS3, when it all goes wrong.

On the PS3, in Network Settings, you should be able to find your IP address of the PS3.

On your XP machine, type the following, at a command prompt:

Code: Select all

PING -t <IPADDRESS_OF_PS3>
If when you disconnect, PING also stops, then you have a network hardware issue. Some suggestions:

Make sure all cables are pushed in fully. Reboot your router, check for new router firmware, move to static IP range.

PS3 - ALWAYS DISCONNECTED

Post by ZDSL » Wed Oct 17, 2007 7:49 am

Thanks for your reply.

There is no HDW problem (cables and so on). I'm never disconnected when I go on the net with the PS3. I'm using static IP address (server is 192.168.0.2 and PS3 is 192.168.0.240).
When I'm disconnected the connection is going up alone after a while (few seconds to a couple of minutes).
When I'm using WMP11 no problem. (but I really prefer Twonky :D )

Nice day to everybody ! :)

Great support

To solve the problem :
Set the IP address of the server in the twonkyvision-mediaserver.ini file and then it works :D
Thanks to the support team

Ok, I'm getting the same problem with my PS3. When I set the ip= to the server address in the twonkyvision-mediaserver.ini it is set back to nothing after I start Twonky. I'm using Twonky 4.4.2 for the PowerPC uclibc build. Any ideas why the setting will not change? Also after Twonky starts the permissions on the twonkyvision-mediaserver.ini are changed any I have to chmod 777 to be able to edit the file.

You can try changing the twonkyvision-mediaserver.ini via the Twonky administration web interface.

Under 'Advanced Setup' on the left frame, choose 'Network'

Then change the field 'IP address of the server' to the IP you want, save and restart the server.

This way the changes will affect the ini file correctly.

Cheers,
-Gus

I got the .ini file to accept the change, but I am still having problems with my PS3 disconnecting fron the server after a half a min. or so. I'm not having the same problen with my xbox 360 or my pc with wmp 11.

I am having this exact same problem. I am using D-Link DNS-323 TwonkyVision 4.4.2 and PS3 connects and after 30s to 60s it disconnects...

My ini file is updated and has the correct IP address of the server.

SOLUTION

Post by nighthawk663 » Sat Nov 24, 2007 5:40 am

I found a solution in another thread, so I'm sharing it here.

They keys are this:

1. Set you IP address in your TwonkyVision web config page to the IP of the computer that's serving. Also, the other thread says that the IP address should be numerically LOWER than the IP address of the PS3. I have not tested this, but that's what the other thread said.

2. UNCHECK the box that says "Restart on NIC changes"

I have had this be quite successful for me, and I have made no other changes.
