Remote Access

Post by dccarm » Fri Jan 04, 2008 12:36 pm

I am trying to connect remotely to Twonky on my NAS at home, but cannot see the files. I can see Twonky and the account settings etc, and get as far as the webbrowse page showing the Music, Photos, Videos options but when I click on these I get a "Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage" error.

I am running Twonky on a Maxtor Shared Storage II, attached to a Netgear DG834G wireless router. It all works correctly at home on the network. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

I have the same issue and I'm pretty suspicious about the cause, but I'm trying to find out how to fix it....

The problem is that my/your device is connected via router to the internet and the router assigns an internal IP to the device. When you try to access your computer from the internet (via your external IP) everything works fine at the beginning, but as soon as you have to access the content on your device the links are not pointing to the external IP anymore but to the internal one (locate the mouse over the link and have a look to the status var) and there is no way to access the internal ip from the internet.

So, the solution should come by replacing the internal ip with the external one, but doing this manually is just not an option

Could anyone from twonky help us there?

Thanks.

I am having the same problem!!! Drives me crazy. I hope Twonky or somebody else can resolve this problem. Contacting Twonky themselves seems to be impossible.

Is this a supported configuration? I thought you needed to use a VPN to do what you are trying to do.

Read this thread for help on how to make firefox work outside of the network, but its still not a final problem solution...
