Hi ,
I have just tested the trial version of TwonkyMedia using my PC and PS3. It was playing 4-8GB 720p .vob files (transcoded from .mkv using "mkv2vob").
I am very happy with the results!
My plan now is to build a small, quiet (silent would be nice), low power consumption server using a miniITX motherboard. I have seen a full system with a 300mhz Geode processor and 256MB RAM. I would run a cut-down version of XP from a compact flash card and store my media on a 1TB SATA drive.
Would this system be powerful enough to meet my requirements? Also it has 10/100 ethernet, is this enough or do I need Gigabit?
Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks.

Re: Help Needed With System Specs
I have a miniITX system running a 600Mhz EPIA, with 1GB of RAM, and a lightweight console only Linux distro with Twonky, and it runs just fine. I would personally favor the LInux route, but the nice thing about Twonky, is you have the choice, you can try Win and Linux, and see how it all fits.
You might want to look at the new Atom based boards from Intel, very low power, and pretty beefy...
Something like this:

7W TDP, and dual core performance...

Thanks for the reply mgillespie.
It's good to hear you have a similar box set up successfully!
I think I will go for the single core Intel Atom board. I have just ordered a 4GB CF card, will order the rest tomorrow.
Probably going to use XP to start with to get up and running quickly, then use a nicely streamlined Linux distro when I have the time to play about with it.
What case are you using? I'm thinking either near full-size HTPC or mATX cube.
Thanks again for your help.
