Post by hexogen » Sun Nov 22, 2009 12:13 pm

I iinstalled Twonky on a Buffalo LSpro NAS. Everythings runs smoothly, streaming works fine. But my PC needs to run otherwise my TV or my Radio won't find anything. What did I miss?

Can you give some details of how your network is set up? You have a NAS, a PC and a TV - how are they connected to each other? Are all the IP addresses set up in the same sub-net i.e. all 192.168.1.x or similar?

PCs ,NAS, MusicPal, TV (Samsung UE40B7020) are sitting behing the same router. IPs through DHCP and in the same subnet. Everything runs well, except the NAS without PC turned on.
Thanks for your reply.

You mention PCs (plural) - does it only disappear when one of them in particular is turned off?

This is a strange one so might take a few of these Q&A sessions! I know that on the LS Live there is a switch on the back that allows it to shut down automatically when the connected PC is turned off but nothing like that on my LS Pro v2 (LS-320GL model).

Is the LS Pro still on when the PC shuts down?

Can you still open the Twonky config page from a PC (if there is one still on) when Twonky has disappeared from the TV?

I've just seen your signature line that shows you are running 5.0.68 on your LS Pro. AFAIK that version can't be made to run correctly on the LS Pro - other users have been able to get 4.4.6, 4.4.18 and the 5.1 betas to work but not 4.4.9-4.4.17 and 5.0.x versions.

Please don't take this the wrong way but have you definitely installed Twonky on to your NAS, or have you installed it on to your PC with it getting its media from your NAS?

If you do have 5.0.68 installed on your NAS could you tell me which file you used to install it?

No harm done...
It's working! I decreased my amount of shared file down to 3 (!) and it works. And it's 5.0.68 on a LSPro. Official file from the Twonky-HP. If you need more information, pls feel free.
Thanks for your time.

You are only sharing 3 files?

The big problem with the 5.0.x versions is the database structure they use - basically it generates loads of small files in the /var/twonkymedia folder which eats up the free space on the system partition which is only small. When this runs out of room the LS grinds to a halt. That's why most people don't use the 5.0.x versions. The alternatives are to run twonky with the -appdata switch to tell it to put the files elsewhere (in the LS's data partition) or to sym-link /var/twonkymedia to a location in the data partition.

If you only share 3 files then you are keeping down the number of files generated in the system partition but it isn't very practical is it? Do you just drop a couple of files into the shared folder when you want to watch/listen to them?

4.4.18 works well for me and I have 8829 music files, 2567 photos and 172 movies being shared.

It was just a trial - and solved my problem with the running PC.
My intension is to share more files so I will eighter have to downgrade or wait till they fixed bug. Thank you for the hint, I'll try that.
