What exact model of LS Live are you using?
You need to open up your NAS firmware to allow Telnet access - you need root access and I think that this is a problem for some of the newer models. Take a look on the Buffalo NAS-Central forums (http://forum.buffalo.nas-central.org/viewforum.php?f=26) and the Wiki pages (http://buffalo.nas-central.org/wiki/Two ... ediaServer).
Also, if the java program you mention is acp-commander, you need to download and install java from www.sun.com and also use the latest version of acp-commander as Georg (who contributes both here and on NAS-Central) had to make some changes for the latest LS Lives. It's all documented over on NAS-Central.

Re: Help with install on Linkstation Live
If you read up on the NAS-Central site it will detail how to use acp-commander. You need a DOS Prompt window to run acp-commander from and there are various switches to get it to do things such as open telnet access and reset the root password. You can't just double-click it.
