Re: Supported Streaming Formats
I see WMA is supported. Does this include the WMA lossless?

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Just tried WMA Lossless, and yet it streams just fine (as long as your client supports it obviously) Adding it to the list.DanN wrote:I see WMA is supported. Does this include the WMA lossless?

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
What formats will Twonky transcode to? For example can I input .mov, h.264 and get what at the set top? I want to use twonky with Moxi and they support limited formats.

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
My PS3 says that divx and xvid are not supported formats on my mediaserver, but when I just connect that external hard drive on my ps3, it works fine.
The reason that I have that external hard drive connected to my router, is because it's also a backup device for my laptop and computer in my network.
How can I update my Twonky server in my WRT610N router from Linksys, the version is 4.4 ?
I just bought Twonky Media Server 5.0 .

Doesn't Twonky support MKV now? It is not on the list.

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Because it's a container, not a codec. A MKV can support many types of things inside. But yes, perhaps this list needs expending to include containers.weaver4 wrote:Doesn't Twonky support MKV now? It is not on the list.

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Yeah, I notice that. But avi was also listed which is a container. So when I saw that I thought "that is strange that they list avi but not mp4, and mkv".
Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Any chance of supporting pictures in DNG format? Transcoding to JPG perhaps... well wishes are free, aren't they?

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
You could use the transcoding feature if there is a commandline application that can convert DNG to JPG.calgot wrote:Any chance of supporting pictures in DNG format? Transcoding to JPG perhaps... well wishes are free, aren't they?

Will it support VC-1 codec? as well as support Blue-ray disk structure?

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Hi,
This is a question about how to troubleshoot streaming problems
I am having a problem matching a movie to my Samsung TV. And I want to understand how to figure out the problem. So if you can tell me what it is, by lookming at the infor attached, please tell me so that I can do it myself next time.
The file is a working mp4 file. Plays fine in vlc. Plays fine when opened in windows from Twonky. Does not play fine when openend from my Samsung TV (although other files do). Video is great - but TV does not recognise audio codec. No error that I can see in the twonky log.
Following info about the file from vlc.
Video Codec: mp4v
Audio Codec: mpga
Language: English
Type: Audio:
Channels: 2
Sample rate: 48000 Hz
Bits per sample: 16
Bdtrate: 1536 lcb/s
Twonky is not trying to transcode this so it thinks the tv can understand it. Here's the relevant section from clients,db

Wrong!
First off, your list:
contains a mix of containers and codecs.Music: MP3, WMA, WAV, 3GP, M4A, MP4, LPCM, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, MP2, AC3, MPA, MP1, AIF, ASF, WMA Lossless
Photo: JPEG, PNG, TIF, BMP, GIF
Video: MPEG1, MPEG2, MPEG2-TS, MPEG4, AVI, WMV, VOB, DivX, 3GP, VDR, ASF, MPE, DVR-MS, Xvid, M1V, M4V
Internet Radio: vTuner, Shoutcast
Playlists: WPL, PLS, M3U
WMV is a container. AVI is a container, VOB is a container, DiVX is a container, 3GP is a container, ASF is a container, XVid is a container, MP4 is a container which can be either audio or video or both (it holds MPEG-4, etc), etc etc.
Twonky doesn't "support" any codecs. It streams the bits, and the client on the other end decodes the codec if IT supports the given codec(s).
Twonky supports adding contents from specific CONTAINERS to its database.
So if you want your first post to be useful, put the containers that Twonky picks up, and leave out the codecs.

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
I have a WHS with the latest Twonky Server installed. I'm attempting to stream (no transcoding) to an Oppo BDP-80 with the latest firmware for that player. Pictures and MP3's work just fine. I also have a lot of mpg's. They player sees all of them, but when I try to play any one of them, one of 3 things happens, depending on the file.
1) It starts to stream almost immediately
2) It takes a very long time (3-5 minutes+) at 0% then suddenly starts streaming
3) it sits at 0% for a short time then kicks the player back to the menu
I am able to stream all of these files via Streambaby inside Galleon to my TiVo (but then they suffer from the 1GB re-buffer issue). There are no timecode breaks in the mpg files (all of them were checked with MPEGStreamClip).
Any idea(s) as to what's going on and how I get all of the files to stream?
For kicks, I put an mpg in an mkv wrapper (no conversion applied) around a file that would not stream and it started playing just fine by being transcoded... only my WHS hardware can't keep up with any level of transcoding, so that option is out.
Thanks!

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Never mind. I solved my video streaming issues by switching to this, which worked 100% out of the box, so to speak. This was disappointing in some sense, because I wanted Twonky to work (and purchased it). Plus, Twonky seems faster at serving up the menus - this is noticeably slower to display large lists of folders.
I'll try Twonky again as the server software is updated.

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Hi
I have never tried this, but someone has just asked me if Twonky 6 will deal with the m3u custom internet radio files he currently used with Twonky 4 (like the one below):
#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1,BBC Radio 3
http://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami ... ve_eq1_sl0
#EXTINF:-1,BBC Radio 4 FM
http://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami ... ve_eq1_sl0
#EXTINF:-1,BBC Radio 4 LW
http://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami ... ve_eq1_sl0
#EXTINF:-1,BBC Radio 5 Live
http://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami ... ve_eq1_sl0
#EXTINF:-1,BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra
http://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami ... ve_eq1_sl0
I have tried this (using his above file), and though it is picked up by T6 and added to playlists (and then when opened, I can indeed see the stations listed on the Twonky control point) when I add one of the stations to the control point, it doesn't actually start playing anything.
Instead of using my control point, if I instead try clicking on a links to one of the stations from within the Twonky web interface, it opens up WM player on the local PC, but that then brings up a pop-up message stating the following: The server redirected the player to an invalid location.
After acknowledging the pop-up message, on the main WM player screen I can see the link shown as follows: embeddedhttp://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio3/radio3_bb_live_eq1_sl0
If I open a browser and manually enter http://wmlive-acl.bbc.co.uk/wms/bbc_ami ... ve_eq1_sl0 then WM player opens up and radio 3 starts playing (implying that the URL is okay).
The question is; does this feature still work in Twonky 6? I know it was broken in Twonky 5.1, but I thought it had been fixed for T6. Is the syntax maybe different for T6 radio m3u files?

The original post shows the formats supported by Twonky, but doesn't say what version of Twonky. It says that .MOV files are supported, but Twonky 5.0.56 on my HP EX485 says "unsupported file format". The last version of a Twonky add-in for the EX485 is version 5.1.6. Anybody know if this version supports .MOV?

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
PB asks "what media player are you trying to play the .MOV files on".
I have .MPG movies (from a snapshot camera that also does short movies) and some .MOV movies (from a Kodak HD pocket camcorder). Twonky 5.0.56 on my HP EX485 MediaSmart server plays the .MPG movies just fine on my Samsung BD-6500 BluRay player attached to my Sony HD TV. But when I try to play a .MOV movie it says "Unsupported file format".
I saw .MOV on the supported list at the beginning of this thread and have been trying to find out where that support started. Since the thread started in 2008 it would appear that it has been awhile. But my Twonky 5.0.56 apparenly doesn't. Reading this forum I see that the last Twonky "add-in" for the HP EX485 is version 5.1.6. I would be willing to try installing that, but would like to know first whether it supports .MOV format, since it appears that some on this forum have had challenges with installing later versions of Twonky on their HP servers. No sense risking problems if 5.1.6 doesn't support .MOV
Thanks for your reply!

Maybe you can use the following tools in order to get information about how improve the transcoding in your server. My suggestion is to open a new topic, tell to the user that they can send their information in order to try to figure out how the DLNA products works.
http://opentools.homeip.net/dev-tools-for-upnp
==> Important : Support to external subtitles files
For example, an open Media Server have the following post in their forum. It is very useful.

In order to support more devices let me know of what yours supports. One way is to send me the Sink protocol information of your device.
1. Install Intel UPnP tools
2. run Device Spy
3. It should list all your UPnP device and among them yout device (eg TV, console, etc)
4. Expand the device's tree and find service: urn:upnp-org:serviceId:ConnectionManager:1
5. Expand that and double click on GetProtocolInfo(...).
6. Click on Invoke and send me (or attach a file) the result in field Sink.

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Be aware though that not all file formats provide good support for metadata - if you can't tag a file there is every chance that it won't be displayed in Twonky Server's Navigation Tree. This is especially a problem with audio file formats: users may have large collections of music, so a logical hierachy which allows you to track down a specific album is needed.
MP3, WMA, Ogg/Vorbis and FLAC files seem to work fine. M4a is currently only partially supported by Twonky - the 'composer' and 'albumArtist' tags are not mapped. This is being addressed by PV technical support, but in the meantime M4a is best avoided for classical music collections (since 'composer' is essential for organising these).
For more details see the Twonky wiki here

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
HI,
i have most of my music files in .AIFF format . My new media player, HDI DUNE does not support .AIFF, but WAV, etc . would i be able to listen to my .aiff music files through Twonky ? would it make a kind of "real-time" conversation, or this is not going to happen ?
thx
ps.: also, would it hold the tag info (album art, artist, etc. names ?)

I suggest you to open a New Topic with your issue. Maybe another user has a solution.qualiton69 wrote:HI,

I think that you have to transcode from AIFF to WAV. Take a look to the following Topic, there are some transcoding for video, but you could try to do something similar to create a transcode from AIFF to WAV.

UPDATE = I don't sure, but you could add the following link to your profile:

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Hi,
I have installed TwonkyServer 6.0.30 on my windows vista laptop, my main use for TwonkyServer is to stream music to my Sony BDP-S370 Blu-ray player. Streaming mp3's is a doddle, however I am unable to stream WAV files, the files appear on screen, but when selected I just get the message "This file is corrupted or the music file is not supported".
I have tried every media receiver configuration but with no joy!
Anybody have any suggestions? Or could this be looked at for the next update please?
Kind regards
Hayden

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Can the Sony BDP-S370 Blu-ray player play .WAV files? If not you will need to set up transcoding to a supported format.

Hi,
Yes it can play WAV/LPCM files, I have succesfully streamed them with Asset and Nero but unfortunately not through my prefered choice of Twonky!

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
You could try adding MT:wav audio/wav to the clients.db entry for Sony Blu-Ray Player (and make sure that is what you have set this device up as on the Media Receivers page).

Hi,
i have a problem with one avi-file.
This file http://lbraband.ath.cx/siebenConv.txt works perfectly.
but this one http://lbraband.ath.cx/memConv.txt does not (its not even listed in the mediadirectory).
Why?
And how can i convert it to a working format with a debian linux machine.
Files where created with mediainfo.

Re:TV or Twonky?
I have a panasonic viera v20 and when I am pulling video files from the pc lately the message appears cannot read file, however if I exit and retry a number of times it will then read and play the file, this appears to be getting worse and I am not sure what is the cause, TV or Twonky. lately even when I get to actually play the file if I attempt to fast fwd then it will drop out with the same message.

Both of these issues seem player-related to me. Sadly, most TVs do not have good embedded media players.

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Cake Tins! This is inspirational to me! I like my cakes and I have my 2 cake tins arranged as a RAID 1 array. This means that should one of the cake tin lids get jammed shut, my selection of available cakes will not be at all compromised. I think Twonky should be able to scan my cake tin array and display the available contents (both cake and biscuit formats) such that I can browse them on my DLNA TV. I assume that with rescan set to -1, when I consume a cake, the index will automatically be updated and the cake be removed from the choices menu. I am slightly disappointed that Twonky still cannot read my c3u files (cakelists) and feel this needs immediate attention. I also would like more support for the genre tags (biscuit, shortbread, sponge, tea-dunking, etc) as this would make content navigation a much more satisfying user experience. The above forum spammer (xerryhorteen997) wrote wrote:CAKE TINS

Hi
Well spotted and thank you very much for pointing that out! Immediately after submitting my silly post, I got side-tracked by a long and complex phone call and [somewhat unusually] I didn't actually proof-read the displayed post after submitting it.
I have now removed the html bits and will go eat some cake whilst bowing my head in shame (and also bowing it into my cake tin)

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Actually, I think that would be a great plan; I thought the three handbag spam-ads [the other day] didn't really add much technical value to the overall scheme of things (though I did buy a couple of fake crocodile ones, just to be absolutely sure) and thus think it would be good if gurus (and maybe even bandits) had the permissions to 'tidy' these sort of things up as soon as they appear. That said, I still rather like the idea of scanning the contents of my RAID 1 cake tins!
If that permission already exists, I confess to not knowing the procedure (that said, maybe I absent-mindedly wrote it down and stashed the note away in one of my new pseudo-croc handbags). Seriously though, maybe a group PM (or email) outlining spam trashing techniques would be useful?

I don't think we have that option; I just tried to see if I could ban Rick, but alas there was no facility so to do!
Seriously though, I did also look at a new user (who had only posted twice) to see if the option was there for new folks (who could thus be spammers) but I don't see it there either.

Oh, and can us Gurus and Bandits have the "you can't post so soon" timeout reduced please. It is a major PITA and makes posting here a challenge at times - or maybe I just need to learn how to type slowly
This is a case in point - it's been over a 2 minutes since my last post and I still can't post another one.

What?? Out of the box, I expected Twonky to simply play any media locally.. Unfortunately Twonky has not been able to play any video file from my large movie library (while other media players play all content)
Sorry am just ranting here.. Just purchased the Twonky Manager, installed it and so far have not found any helpful answers in any guide, video or forum to help setup the server So far Twonky has been a totally negative experience, but am hoping that will change soon.
Many of my videos are m2ts, ts, m4v. mp4.mkv, containers all of which play in XBMC, media Player Classic, PowerDVD 10 and more players. What or how do I configure Twonky to play any files from my library please.?

Twonky doesn't play any files, at all. What Twonky does is allow your DLNA client to access the media on the Twonky server.

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Daemon is right. TwonkyManager doesn't have it's own player. We use Windows Media Player, Flash player and the QT player. If you haven't installed QuickTime yet, you should do so, that will expand the number of files you can play. TwonkyManager's purpose is not to be a universal player. There is other software which does that much better. It's purpose is to act as a server that shares media with devices in your home.

Re: Supported Streaming Formats
Maybe I wasn't clear...
Codecs are already installed at every server and client and all currently installed players can play any file from any library. . Yet Twonky fails to support 99% of my libraries media and is unable to direct any media file to a media player which can normally open the media (ie not using twonky).
I am beginning to understand Twonky though, and I think it should be able to access any media file and open any desired compatible player. The biggest problem as I see it is minimal support for both media players and media itself. Look at it this way, more than 95% of media in my networked library use m2ts whether a 1080p or 480i which is an mpeg2 stream very similar in construction to a ts file, both are IP streaming formats with m2ts being blue ray specific. Yet Twonky only supports ts ?? Sorry I don't get it, why so handicapped??
yes i understand the intention is to serve media to DLNA compliant devices however I am not interested in purchasing more hardware simply to be DLNA compatible, especially when software players are better and more flexible, besides we already purchased adequate hardware. Twonky in it's simplest form is a media manager, albiet can do a lot more However folks shouldn't have to change the format of their entire library to be compliant with the media manager, right? I can write a script to take my library and pass each m2ts through a muxing tool to convert to ts (without trans-coding) but I shouldn't have too is the point. Will i have to do it over when a newer media manager is available?? The other issue is unless a player is already open and running, Twonky doesn't even know of it's existence, so how would it know which player to open to play the media with??
How is it I can't specify a software player of my choosing in the TM yet I can access the server across the network and open a media file with flash???
Speaking of access to the server, I watched most of the help movies looking for instructions on how to remotely access the server to configure it, all movies seem to skip this vital information whats up with that?? I noticed in one of the movies after zooming in that the presenter was using port 9000 to access the server, so I tried that and voila!! now I could see the same page the presenter was making the presentation with.. Honestly it doesn't help the new guys when they can't follow along with the presentation because someone failed to show you how to access the same page..
