Fast forward/reverse on Samsung TV

Post by eldaria » Mon May 03, 2010 1:30 pm

Hello again.

First the obligatory details.

TwonkyMedia version: 5.1.4 Registered.
Server hardware: P4 2.6Ghz, 1.5GB Ram, Plenty of diskspace
Operating System: Ubuntu Intrepid Server (Kernel 2.6.27-17-server #1 SMP)
If you are running as a system service (Windows only): N/A
Client(s) and their software version: Samsung LED-TV UE40B8050, SW version: 2010/01/25_003001
Type(s) of media you are having problems with: Not able to fast forward/reverse in MKV
How many files you have in your database: While testing: 27 Videos, 154 Music, No Pictures
Network type (Wired/Wireless): Wired
Other items on your network (Router make/model for example): D-Link DIR-655

Hello, I noticed that when I play MKV videos with Twonky, I can not reverse or fast forward, but when I use a USB drive it works.

However with VOB files there is no issue?

I noticed a post from 2009 in the Best practice for DLNA, but not sure if that is my TV that has the issue or something else, is there a way around it?

Regards.

If you'd searched the forum you'd have found a number of threads on the matter, including this one that you should read.

If you haven't done so already, you might want to try the early beta of TMS 6.0. It has a new file scanner that is supposed to extract positional info from some types of video files so they can now be FF/REW. TMS 6.0 is still very new and has issues, but this might be worth a try.

Sure, I would not mind doing beta testing, but I only saw the NAS version on the forum page, is there a
difference between the NAS and normal version?

-edit-
sorry, I just followed the link for the NAS version and saw there is one for the normal version, so I will try it, thank you.

Having worked out how to do a parallel install I just gave 6.0 a spin. It doesn't allow FF or REW on my Samsung, but it does display the correct running time.

Hmmm it looks as if the download link for the installation link is broken.

The requested URL /downloads/6.0-Beta/twonkymedia-i386-glibc-2.2.5-6.0-dev.sh was not found on this server

You should be trying the more recent Beta 2 downloads.

Is there any special tricks to doing a parallel install? Or just install to a different directory and shut down the other server?

It seems to work just fine. I ran it with the options "-appdata=/var/twonkymedia-6 -dbdir=/var/twonkymedia-6/db", having created the directories in question. Note that it is up to Beta4 last time I checked.
No longer running Twonky

Hello,

I am new at Twonky and I installed the BETA because I also have a f*** Samsung TV. It all works fine but fast forward/reverse.

As I read the thread I understood that with Twonky 6 this issue should be solved, shouldn't it?

Thanks for your respons!

You found the issue right there.
Samsung is doing it differently than everybody else, that is why it does not work.
Annoying as hell concidering how much I payed for that TV, it should be able to do such a simple thing.
But it is even in the DLNA certification that it does not support it.

You've got it right there - no matter how much effort Twonky put in or how much we tweak our clients.db entries if the TV doesn't support FF/Rew then nothing will ever fully work. And I don't count the 10 second jumps that I can make on some files as FF/Rew - it takes as long to jump 10 seconds as it would have to just let it play i.e. 10 seconds! I have a B650 BTW.
