Content scanning in TwonkyMedia 5.0

Post by simoncn » Thu Jan 15, 2009 6:28 pm

I'm having problems with content scanning in TwonkyMedia 5.0. My content directory contains FLAC files. When I use TM 5.0 to scan these, the track names show up OK, but the music tree contains no album names or artist names. With TM 4.4.9, I get everything: track names, album names and artist names.

My motivation for using 5.0 is to try to solve the problem with 4.4.x not picking up COMPOSER tags in FLAC files. I have tried all the different settings for music tree layout (simple default, advanced default and iPod-like) and I have tried rebuilding the database, restarting the server, and forcing a rescan. Despite all efforts, I can't get anything to show up in the music tree except for the track names.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I can't help you, but since misery loves company, I have the same story. My FLAC library worked fine under 4.4 (Linux). I never noticed the lack of COMPOSER tag reading, but that would not have bothered me. I upgraded to TwonkyServer 5.0 because on occasion I still had problems with my Denon 3808 (latest firmware) dropping the stream mid-song. I have not experienced this issue with 5.0 and bought a Denon network media dock for another receiver because this seemed to now be working. All was fine until this weekend until I hit the "rebuild database" button on the website. I did my own install of 5.0 and probably never lost the 4.4 database, so everything was fine until then. Once the database rebuilt, all of my flac files were under Unknown. I pointed Twonky to my MP3 copy of my flac's which are much smaller and used for my iPhone. Everything is organized properly now, but I can hear the musical difference on the Denon and it annoys me to no end. After spending several thousand dollars on my receiver, Twonky, Linux server combo, I should not have to choose between music quality and proper tag reading. Obviously, something in the 5.0 release is not reading FLAC tags when it builds its database.

Did you ever get anywhere with this ?

I just bought a brand new Buffalo Linkstation Pro which runs Twonky 5. I moved all my FLAC files from a Linkstation Live that runs Twonky 4 and now I cannot access anything via Album / Artist etc., only by Folder. I think I have the same problem with it not scanning FLAC tags.
