Hi,
Any help would be appreciated. I have:
1. Found a version of ffmpeg that correctly transcodes my target files (codec is DVCPRO from a panasonic camera, tested with a batch file in the ffmpeg folder (ffmpeg-1869.7z). Played the result with both VLC and Quicktime player).
2 . Tried 2 x DLNA clients on the iPad (first the free mPlayer Lite, then I bought AirPlayer) and neither work (although prior to setting up ffmpeg they both flagged the files as uplayable, but afterwards, they say the file is ok, try to play it but nothing happens).
3. "Installed" ffmeg (Twonky server v6.0.1, win XP, data on a NAS), turned on logging, and observed in the logs the transcoding to MP4 to be run.
4. Followed the path in the log file to find the MP4 output in the db cache, and played it with both vlc and Quicktime Player.
--> but my DLNA client just hangs (doesn't crash, just waits forever. Lets me press "Done" to go back to the file list). Note that the whole system works for "regular" AVI's that use more common codecs (DIVX, XVID etc). So I am guessing that the generated MP4 file (m4v) is not quite right for the iPad (even though it works for VLC and Quicktime player). It just occurred to me I have not yet tried syncing the MP4 file the iPad to see if it works. I will try it next.
Questions:
1. Can anyone suggest an ffmeg build that they have tested and works for iPads?
2. Can anyone suggest a DLNA client for iPad that they have successfully tested with Twonky?
EDIT +10 mins after writing the above: I just tried syncing the MP4 file to the iPad and iTunes says "... was not copied to the iPad because it cannot be played on this iPad". I tried also syncing after changing the extension to m4v but the same result. So the answer then is that the ffmpeg parameters are not right yet. I will look for iPad compatible ffmpeg parameters for creating iPad compatible MP4s. Any suggestions?? Note ffmpeg-ts-mp4.tsc is unmodified (v6.0.1 default).
thanks,
