TwonkyServer 6.0 - audio file sort order and database rebuil

Post by jjstreic » Sat Jul 24, 2010 1:40 pm

I am searching for a proper DLNA media server for my home network and Twonky seems to be a very good option so I started looking at it. I'm running version 6.0 on a Windows 7 32bit OS running as a service.

I've got a couple of issues I hope someone can help me out with.

1) Every time I restart the service the entire database goes through a rebuild (item count starts at 0 and builds up for audio, video, and photo files). I tried changing the auto-refresh from -1 to 720 and it seems to be acting the same still. I have about 40K audio files, 10K pictures, and 1K video files so a rebuild takes about an hour. Pretty annoying for sure.

2) Audio file sort order - My collection of MP3 files are all named Artist-Album-Track-Title.mp3 and are stored in a folder structure based on artist\album. I use the folder view to browse my audio files, however I notice that when I get into an album folder the media server sorts the tracks based on the metadata Title entry. This is absolutely not at all what I want. I need to either have it sort alphabetically (desired and expected) or the track # metadata. Any idea how I can get this done? This is a deal breaker for me here.

#2 happens when I'm viewing the library via the web interface, PlugPlayer, WIndows Media Player, or my WDTVLive devices.

Thanks!
JJ

Bump for this.

Everytime I restart my PC (server) it does a full database rebuild on startup. Doesn't take that long, but I do have 30k music, 10k photos and about 500 movies, so it's a bit annoying. I've noticed it more since the last time I recently upgraded and rebuilt my PC..

Anyone know if this is normal..?

I'm meticulous about my music collection organizing so the track sort thing can be annoying too.. any workarounds/solutions?

I have the same issue here and find it really annoying. I navigate via the "Folders" view (either in Twonky Media or my Philips Streamium NP2x00), but if I navigated to the folder the mp3 files are in, all files are sorted alphabetically by their ID3-Name and not by their file name or their ID3-track number. This does make no sense at all. I would be really happy to get this fixed. What is the right place to address this issue?

Thanks,
Timo.

Same issue here with the sort order. I'm using a Logitech Revue as the client player and it is very frustrating that the sort order is not correct. I use the OP's file naming format too and also see my files listed alphabetically via track title. This prevents me from being able to listen to a full album in track # order. Anyone ever tried to listen to Dark Side Of The Moon via the alphabetical track title? No continuity to say the least.

I've recently tried a few other DLNA server products, most recently TVMOBiLi, which does sort correctly when using "by folder" view. However that product is not very mature or robust. I do prefer Twonky and want to continue to use and support it.

Can someone respond back to this issue? Is the cause of this due to the Revue not being properly detected via Twonky? I tried, well actually failed miserably, in attempting to hack the config xml to properly show the "by folder" view however with the minimal information available about how to do it correctly it did not work to say the least.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?
