listing files in only one directory

Post by firesting » Wed Dec 22, 2010 10:08 pm

hey

i want to try twonkyserver on my windows 2008 server for streaming files to my wd tv live, ps3 etc.
now i habe different hdds, but NO RAID atm.
for eample :

hdd 2 (e) with series
hdd 3 (f) with series
hdd 4 (g) with hd movies
hdd 5 (h) with hd movies
...

how can i configure twonkyserver, that i see on the one side for example the directories in wd tv live as series 1, series 2, hd movies 1, hd movies2,...
in this case should be the directorylisting = hdd
i mean : directory series 1 = hdd series 1
you know what i mean ?

on the other side :
how can i configure twonkyserver, that i can see only one directory in wd tv live - such as series, hd movies,...
and under series are all my hdds with series "mounted"

hope you understand what i mean ^^

thanks for your help.

greetings

I don't think what you want to do is possible just from within Twonky. One issue is that Twonky doesn't list folders in the By Folder view that don't contain any media files themselves, only other folders. So If you set up folders called Series on each drive and shared them you wouldn't see the top Series folder, only the folders they contain.

Win XP and Win 7 have a feature where you can mount a drive as either a drive letter (e,f,g,h in your case) or as a folder within another drive. Maybe you can do the same in 2008 Server?

Set up a folder on your C drive called Media (or whatever) and create 4 empty folders in it called Series 1, Series 2, HD Movies 1, HD Movies 2. Then mount your e drive into Series 1 etc. To do this you need to get to Computer Management, Storage, Disk Management - you'll have to work out how to do this on 2008 Server. Right click a drive and select Change Drive Letter & Paths then add a path to one of the newly created empty folders. When done for all drives share C:\Media from Twonky.

Not sure it will do exactly what you want but it might get you started.

BTW, I started replying to you before with info about the followlinks parameter in the INI file which lets you put links from one folder in another and Twonky will search across the links but I think that only works on a Linux server.
