I tried to get access to my Twonky-server vis internet but it doesn't work.
I edited the twonkymedia-server.ini:

# dynamic dns prefix for remote access, including http://
dyndns=http://my.dyndns.com:9100

# access to web config pages, 0 for denied, 1 for local only, 2 for open
enableweb=2

# follow symbolic links while scanning (Linux only)
followlinks=0

# http server port for remote access
httpremoteport=9100

I also tried as an alternative:
# dynamic dns prefix for remote access, including http://
dyndns=http://my.dyndns.com

After that I saved the twonkymedia-server.ini and restart my PC. I tried to get access via the internet with:
1. http://my.dyndns.com:9100/webbrowse
2. http://my.dyndns.com/webbrowse

But nothing works. Can you help me please??

I wouldnt think that this would work dyndns=http://my.dyndns.com:9100

From tinkering around with it, I used dyndns=http://my.dyndns.com

But as long as its working, in the end thats what matters

that is the wrong file "twonkymedia-server-default.ini"
it is used to create/re-create the twonkymedia-server.ini
if it does not exist, during install, or launch

You need to edit the twonkymedia-server.ini
.

To my knowledge, the one you want to work out of is

C:\Users\All Users\TwonkyMedia

as the C:\ProgramData\TwonkyMedia is kind of linked from there or vice versa

I never said to look here C:\Program Files (x86)\TwonkyMedia

SBS 2011 is just like any other version of Windows 2011 variants,
the way user accounts and profiles works the same

So your telling me that C:\Users\All Users doesnt exist?
If it doesnt exist you have some serious issues with that OS install, serioulsy
I just booted up my VM of SBS 2011, and mine has one

Per your own post the install of twonky clearly sees the folder C:\Users and C:\Users\Kevin

appdata=C:\ProgramData\TwonkyMedia
ituneslib=C:\Users\Kevin\Music\iTunes\iTunes Music Library.xml
contentdir=+M|G:\music,+P|G:\movies
The problem is probably that you have not turned on to show hidden files
from the folder and serach options in explorer

Click start then Click run and copy and paste the below into the box, and then click ok

Code: Select all

C:\Users\All Users\TwonkyMedia
That will open the folder without having to show hidden files

remoteaccessflash=0

remote flash isnt working to my knowledge

since enabletls=1, you'l need to connect using https://XXX.dyndns.org:9100

but dont change the dyndns=http://XXX.dyndns.org
https://XXX.dyndns.org:9100 is for when enabletls=1
http://XXX.dyndns.org:9100 is for when enabletls=0

and you better set web config user access, this is dangerous, since you have enableweb=2
accessuser=
accesspwd=

Right Flash doesn't work for me either.

Another thing is that external feeds also doesn't work.
When I select an shoutcast steam the following error appears in firefox:
"(Fehlercode: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)"

When I switch to tls=0 (http) then no error occurs but the steam doesn't play either.

It might have someting to do with the reverse proxy functionality.

Cheers

Hello... Interested on this topic. :)
Let's add more complexity...

What about if I need to access my TwonkyServer on DNS-323 at home from my iPad's Apps called PlugPlayer over internet?
What do I need to put into Device Description URL XML field so that it could browse my TwonkyServer at home over internet from iPad?

Can I do that btw?

Thanks for any advice.

BR- Arc. :)

Hello,

I have a Western Digital My Book Live NAS device, running Twonky 5.1.9.

I tried to follow these steps, but the file "twonkymedia-server.ini" is nowhere to be found. In the twonky folder there is only "twonkymedia-server-default.ini", which doesn't have any of the options said in the first post (dyndns, enableweb, etc..).

I guess the TwonkyServer installation in this device regenerates a new configuration file each time based on this default.ini, but I have no idea how to edit it. Could anyone help me, please?

Thanks!

@Jagermeister

I have an idea on how to solve your problem,
IF and only IF the twonky server ini is truly being rebuilt on startup of the WD or the Twonky Service
This should work

You CAN edit the default ini to use what ever settings you want
Hence the name default in its name
The default file just contains the minimum settings needed
But you can add more to it

To figure that out, read the following posts

TwonkyServer INI Configuration Settings
http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9497

How to manage Twonky Server
http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9364

This command would return all current running settings, and there values
from a web browser

http//<server_ip_address>:9000/rpc/get_all

Once you know what you want to add/do
You should be able to telnet/ftp into the WD and use a text editor to edit the default ini for twonky
and add what ever settings you want/need and save it

if you then restart the device, twonky should be creating the server ini from the default ini
if that is truly the case I do not know
but if it is, then you should be good to go

good luck!

@phibertron

Thank you very much for your answer, I will try it soon. One more question, do you know if streaming from another location is also available in Twonky 5.1.9?

@Jagermeister

Hard to say,I dont know if it is off the top of my head
as yui may have noticed in searching the forums
some bugs regress, sometimes they dont
the remote feature has been through this regress/fixed cycle

If you have a the ability to run VM's (virtual pc, vmware workstation, etc.)
Or have a spare pc to play with, one could use there existing to key
to play or test the other versions

But the NAS doesnt give you a key does it?

I got it working, but if I access to the web interface remotely I can't click on any link ("Music", "videos", etc..), the website timeouts when I press them.

Locally they work fine.

@Jagermeister

If hover over a link remotely for a media item
it probably shows you the ip of your internal lan

for ex:
a local link
http ://192.168.1.1:9000/webbrowse/O0$3

if you see this remotet, something setup wroing, or twonky is to blame

http ://192.168.1.1:9090/webbrowse/O0$3

if if set up correctly and the twonky version is ok
then the following would appear on a link if you hover over it

http://<public dns name>:9090/webbrowse/O0$3
http://10.11.12.13:9090/webbrowse/O0$3

have you tried to connect via remote ip and or by remote dns name?

Need some help!!

I can not get webstreaming to work! I have configured all necessary options i think, but when i try to access via httpremoteport, I am asked for an authentication. I have no idea what to type in since it is not the accout for changing settings.
I have tried all accounts/users I have on the system but none of them work..

I use the kirkwood version on an Buffalo linkstation ls-chl v2. I replaced the original firmware therefore I have to use the kirkwood version.

Twonky 7

thanks

@mentex

With Version 7.x
I can not get it to work either using the settings way
that one would normally do
I get same result as you, asking for credentials
or is trying to pass me an octet stream

I made note of it on the community site

however, I have figured this out for 7
which negates the need to do all of that

http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.ph ... 627#p40577

if done, all one has to do is port forward to 9000
and it will just work as it should

Hi,

I know this is a very old post, but I hope I can still get some answers. I had to reinstall my MBL, and now I'm in the process of setting it up as I had it before, but I'm unable to achieve some configurations as I had them before.

I installed the latest available version, 8.2
- Can I put a password to my Twonky website? "accessusers" and "accesspwd" seem to be ignored. I managed to put a password for the settings page, but not the rest
- Links to media files seem to be pointing to the local IP address? ie something like: http://127.0.0.1:9000/disk/DLNA-(....)595904.avi instead of http://mydyndns:9000/etc..
- Remote port should be 9000 or 9100? (I seemed to recall 9100, but I can only access with 9000 now)

Thanks a lot!
