Hello,
I am not an expert and need some advise and guidance. I have recently bought the TwonkyMedia manager (2.0.5.69) including the Twonky Server (6.0.32) and I am currently playing/experimenting with it. My main wish is to use this feautre with my NAS (Buffalo Linkstation Duo 2TB) without needing to start my PC nor to have it always on. Can someone help me please with some simple instructions. My environment is the following:
1) Windows 7
2) Buffalo Linkstation Duo 2TB (RAID 1 + Firmware version 1.40)
3) TwonkyMedia manager (2.0.5.69) + Twonky Server (6.0.32)
Thank you very much in advance.
Regards,
George

Since you own it
You can download a version for you nas device
and install it there, you are allowed to do so, per license agreement during purchase
how to do that is the question right
There are some make shift how to do that sutff here in the forums
And sometimes there is info on the forums of the nas manufacter
Here are links to the latest list for nas devices
I included 6.0.31 as some people are having issues with 6.0.32
http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/6.0.32/

Re: Using TwonkyServer without the need of my PC
Hello,
first of all thank you very much for your fast reply. It was really quick.
Regarding your answer, I have visited your proposed site and found the related file (twonkymedia-linkstation-pro-6.0.31-RC6.zip) for my linkstation. I will uninstall all previous version and try to install the 6.0.31 version.
I looked a bit about installation tips and it seems you must have some unix knowledge. However, I will give it a try.
It is a pitty that the there is no official documentation about it.
Anyway, your support seems to be fast and helpfull.
Have a nice day.
Regards,
George

Re: Using TwonkyServer without the need of my PC
Hello again,
yeap it is me again !!! I am sure you understand why. I had a further look on google regarding on how to install the NAS version of Twonkyserver to my Linkstation Duo 2TB and as you understand it is a little bit confusing and sound a bit greek to me (this is the expression in US I think....although I am greek
).
Do you know any specific instructions e.g. all software needed to collect and how to execute step by step although I do not have any deep knowledge on unix/linux?
Any help will be really appreciated.
Best Regards,
George

Re: Using TwonkyServer without the need of my PC
Hello my friend,
I have tried the instructions. For example I believe I have sucesfully performed the installation of JAVA and the untarring of the apc_commander + the reset of the passw. however, next step is to telnet the NAS, but when I do this i get the following message:
"could not open connection to the host, on port 23: connection failed."
I searched further on the net and found out that maybe a reason could be that a file named "telnetd" is not available on my NAS. If this is true it becomes more complicated for me because there are some tips on how to overcome it and copy this file into the NAS without using telnet. It requires deeper knowledge of linux.
I believe the installation of the twonkyserver into the NAS server should be made easier for the middle windows user. it is really complicated.
Anyway, personally I would like to thank you for your help, assistance and interest.
my best regards,
George
