beam from android to computer or tv

Post by worldwidejoe » Wed May 25, 2011 7:49 am

Hello all, I've downloaded the Android app v2.0.2 - 176, Library Version 6.1. and installed Twonky Sever on my Ubuntu 10.04 64bit desktop computer.

The Android app see's my Airport Express and easily streams the music stored on my phone or my desktop computer to it, without any problems.

I keep reading about how you can stream video to devices but cannot find any explanation on how or even the requirements to do that. My computer with Twonky Server installed does not show up as a player in the Android app. Is there another piece of software I need to install on the computer to receive the beamed video from the Andoid app and display it on the computer? Or how about the Android app seeing videos stored on my computer, and streaming them to my HTPC, or even to my tv directly?

I watched a video demonstration which demo'd the following things.

"Twonky mobile application for Android allows you to take the media content from your phone, online sites and other sources, and send it to other connected devices on your home network."

Is this audio only?

"You can send a photo from your phone to your television." "Twonky can also take video that you've shot on your phone and send it to your television."

Ok, how?

From the website: " Want to beam a slideshow from your computer’s photo library to your TV? No problem."

Yes, I do, so how do I do it? I'm sure I'm not going to install software on my TV so what am I missing here?

Sorry if this was a bit of a rant, its just that I alway see products advertising what they can do but not how they do it. I just need to know what's possible before I spend the money.. Thanks in advance for any help.

I think you need to go and read up on how this technology works at http://www.dlna.org
