new versions of Twonky Servers and Yamaha RX-V2700

Post by IamHri » Sat Sep 24, 2011 8:14 pm

Hello,

the latest firmware of my QNAP TS-219p+ (v3.5.0 Build0816) includes a twonky server version 5.1. This version (and also version 6.x) works perfectly with my TV and media players (Sony TV, TVIX 6700, SONY Blu-ray).
About one month ago, I purchased a Yamaha RX-V2700 receiver via ebay. This receiver is equipped with LAN and is able to communicate with media servers via DLNA (I am afraid I don’t know which version).
The receiver is able to recognize media servers (WMP, Nero, Fuppes, and Twonkymedia) in the connected network. Therefore for all tries the receiver is able to see the different versions of Twonky Servers in the network server list.

1st try:
with twonky server 5.1 - that the receiver lists the interprets, but there are no titles available

2nd try:
after upgrading to twonky server 6.034 - the Yamaha receiver could not list the interprets, only the standard items (pictures, music, video) are listed.

3rd try:
after installing twonky 4.4.17 everything is OK. The receiver recognizes interprets titles and so on.

But is there a possibility to upgrade to a higher version of twonky server (e.g. that versions which will come with the new firmwares), or is the version 4.4.17 the last one which will work.

I hope this is not the truth.

Thanks for any ideas and suggestions

I'm not sure what you mean by "interprets". Can you expand on this?

Do you see Artists below the music category?

Have you checked that Twonky is correctly identifying your device?

hello parnott,

with Twonky version 6.034 I get in the GUI of the receiver the items "Playlist, Artists, Genre, Titles and Album"
After selecting one item, I get a 0/0 information. In any case I get no sub items below the standard main items.
Also below Genre (music category) there are no sub items.

I tried also version 5.16 once more. As I told, I get in addition to the main items ("Playlist, ...") also the sub-items except for the titles. Selecting the "Titles" will result in 0/0. All other selects will give numbers > 0. But if I select a sub item to get the individual titles I once more get in any case a 0/0.

For all Twonky versions the receiver was auto-identified as Yamaha network receiver.

I hope you can help

My guess then, is that the device profile for Yamaha Network Receiver in recent Twonky releases is no longer compatible with your Yamaha RX-V2700. The Yamaha RX-V2700 is some years old, circa 2007-2008.

The only thing I can suggest is to try modifying the Yamaha Network Receiver profile in the clients.db file to better match the way it was in 4.x Twonky versions. Some possibilities are-
1) Remove the DV:advanceddefault line
2) Add a AV:M line
3) Add a DX:ABSOLUTEURI line. This option is no longer documented though.

Remember after you change the clients.db file you need to restart Twonkyserver and remove and rediscover your Yamaha.

hello parnott,

thanks for your tips. I tried them for version 5.xx and for 6.xx. But the same things as before.
For 5.xx I get in all cases (at the items playlist, album and artists sub items but) no titles.
For 6.xx there are the main items but no sub items.
I am afraid that only version 4.4.17 will work as designed for the RX-V2700.

In all cases (except for the 4.4.17) I edited the clients and added resp. deleted the line you wrote.
Switched off the Yamaha, restarted the Twonky-server and switched on after about 1 minute the Yamaha.
I tried also to contact the Yamaha service 2 weeks ago but I got no information till now.

Thanks in advance if you have other tips and best regards.

OK, but did you actually remove your Yamaha device from the Media Receivers list in Twonky, turn everthing off and then restart?

hello parnott,

I was not really sure that I initially reset the server list for all test. Therefore I tried all test once more. Each with editing the clients.db putting the additional lines and removing the listed line. For all 5.xx and 6.xx I restarted the server and reset the device - lists. But as before the same result. For 6.xx nothing was listed except the main standard items.
For 5.xx : the artists were listed but selecting an artist out of the list leads to 0/0 titles. The same for albums.

Now I installed the 4.4.17 for the fifth time.

Perhaps you have an other suggestion.
Thanks for you tip.

Best Regards

Umm, starting to run out of ideas.

The only other possible change you could make to the Yamaha Receiver profile in clients.db is to also add-
DX:WMC
to the profile. Seems some devices need this and it was in the 4.x Yamaha Receiver profile.

hello parnott,

thanks for your suggestions. The last 4 days I had lot to do but:

:P !!! now it works !!!!(with version 5.1.6).

The latest news:
- Yesterday I flashed the Yamaha to the "newest" firmware (R061/L047/4.5r)
- today I reflashed my QNAP-NAS with the "latest" firmware (3.5.0_Build0816)
- I inserted respect. deleted the previous listed lines and added the line DX:WMC

It looks like that my problems had been solved. Once more thank you for your help.
Now I am looking for a flac to mp3 online converter for my QNAP219p+. I found a X86 version but the QNAP219p+ needs an arm.xxx one.

Best regards
IamHri

PS: I hope that a twonkyserver-update with a future QNAP-firmware update will also work. (v3.5.1 Build1002 was released at Fri 07.Oct.2011)
