Hello Rik,
unfortunately even with the new version of Tonky Server for Nas, I still have the same problems to playback of .avi file on my Sony Bravia KDL-40NX710. Through DLNA connection I can see the .avi file, but when I try to play it the screen remains black.

Do you think in the future be able to solve this bug?

thanks

Avi is just a container file. What is the format of the video inside the AVI file? Is it DivX, XviD.. or something else?
Note your tv can only play AVI files that are encoded in with video/audio codecs that it supports..

By usb port the Bravia plays all avi files (divx, Xvid...), but from my NAS WD My book World Edition (with Twonky Server 6.0.38) by DLNA play only mpg2 files.

Sorry I did not express myself clearly.
What I ment, was that in my case the Bravia does not recognize any format NOT in a mPeg2 container, even it does via USB (documented in the manual)
If that's the case in your model too, don't blame twonky

I don't blame Twonky. Indeed, since the 6.0.37 version I can finally see the complete list of all files video, while the first in the list there were only MPEG2 files. With the 6.0.38 i i was hoping that the Bravia might play the files too, but it is not...

Hi there!

I replaced TwonkyServer v6.0.34 with both latest versions of Twonky (6.0.37 & 6.0.38) subsequently on my NAS, a Synology DS210j with the latest firmware version (DSM v3.2-1955), and I seem to be in the same trouble as mentioned in the following earlier post: http://twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9801

The server starts nicely and quickly but at a certain indexing level my NAS almost freezes and network transfer rates are down to a few byte only while the hard disk activity is at an extreme level!

Needless to say that the Twonky server doesn't react to UPnP requests ... :(

As described in my earlier post (see above) I had this same issue with versions before 6.0.34 which finally solved this strange issue.

Maybe someone can try to figure out - based on my old post (see above) - if the problem came back with the releases 6.0.37 and 6.0.38 ...

For the moment I have deactivated TwonkyServer on my NAS as the transfer speed drop is not acceptable!

Many thanks for any thoughts and hints!

Best,

Jeeosch

Hi
I'm evaluating the TMS on my MacBook right now but I would rather have it installed on my Synology DS411+ II but as it's not listed in the download area, I'm not sure what to do. Have anybody installed it on the DS411+ II, is it possible or should I stick with my Mac?

Thanks,

This is not wel documented, but here's something you could try. In the twonky resources folder, there is a file called clients.db This file contains which content should be exposed to which device. For Samsung TV's, mpg was not listed, although the TV can play the file without any issues. So I simply added the option, and now Twonky shows mpg files on my Samsung TV.
Maybe you can try the same with your Sony TV. There is some documentation on the top of the clients.db file.

I had some trouble using TwonkyServer 6.0.38 with Microsoft VISTA MediaPlayer 11.
A lot of media was missing in MediaPlayer library.

It turned out that TwonkyServer 6.0.38 misdetected the MediaReceiver type as "Windows 7".
Changing the MediaReceiver type via Web Interface to "Windows Media Player" solved the issue.

I have the same problem with my KDL-55hx820
But by selecting "Syabas firmware based" as the media receiver will enable stream of avi files.
I tried to add the TM property in the Clients.db file to make the "bravia TV" receiver configuration work but no luck.

Are the issues with Samsung TV's already solved within this new release?

For example enabling the 'subtitle' and 'resume' options, as described in: http://www.twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9827

Hi Rick,

But is there any further news about this? Is your team working on this? Those options work with Mezzmo v 2.3.0 for Samsung TV's. But I prefer Twonky, and I paid for TwonkyServer 6 and TwonkyMobile. I also paid for TwonkyServer 5 which was preinstalled on my WD My Book Live. I just like to see a solution because I'm already asking for this about 6 months or so... Would really appreciate that.

Believe it or not, we've fixed Samsung subtitle problems several times already. It takes months to get a fix and then they change something in their firmware which "breaks" it again. It's very frustrating for both of us. :(

I'll ask that they investigate this again. What year and model of Samsung TVs are having problems today?

Rick,

Concerning the subtitle and resume options: I believe all models have this problem with Twonky. My model is from 2010: UE32C6700 (newest firmware: T-VALDEUC-3011.0).
To be clear: subtitles DO WORK (through seperate srt file)! But the subtitle menu in which you can turn subtitles on/off, change sync, change size, etc. is just not available when streaming with Twonkyserver.

As told, those options do work with Mezzmo and also when streaming videos from my pc with (free) Samsung PC Share Manager software. But just not with Twonky :( Especially the resume option is important for me.

Update:
Thumbnails also don't work btw. Not sure about PC Share Manager or Mezzmo, but it works with an USB stick (with slides).

Unfortunately, for me the update to 6.0.38 on my Windows machine breaks all. Mkv, Mp4 and even some avi's are not playing anymore, ac3 codec support is gone. The thumb preview of folder.jpg (for every movie file) appears no longer.

The versions that work are QPKG TwonkyMedia Server 6.0.34 on my QNAP, and TwonkyMedia Server 6.0.37 on my Windows machine. Both play all (ok, most) files and shows the thumb preview of folder.jpg also the FF/RW works for nearly all files.
I've downgraded to 6.0.37 and it works again. Are there some breaking changes in the UPnP commands in 6.0.38 ?

edit: my TV is a Samsung LE40B750

I got TwonkeyServer6.0.38 on my Enigma2 tuner/pvr.
Works good. From Dreambox DM8000 to Oppo BDP93eu customized BluRay player. (both Linux devices)
SD recodings (*.ts with mpeg2) works ok.
But when i try HD recordings (*.ts with h.264 & DolbyDigital5.1/ac3) then it stops at 10% buffering before playing.

Can this be solved in a free update? A HD tuner/pvr has lots of High Defenition recordings, compared to Standard Defenition.

We only support subtitle via SRT files. Glad to hear at least that works.

Thumbnails should work if they are named EXACTLY the same as the video file AND they are in the same folder. Is that the case?

This seems like a player issue and not a server issue. I would expect something like a WDTV to do this if it's hard-wired.

Yes, in that case thumbnails do work. You have to put a seperate image (jpg) file in the same folder and with the same filename. But when I put an USB stick in my TV, the build-in media player automatically generates thumbnails from the movie file (thumbnails even slide) and that looks great! You don't neet to put in an seperate thumbnail image yourself. That doesn't work with Twonkyserver. Just a minor issue.

Will the other major issues (resume / subtitle menu) be fixed soon? When I read through these forums, a lot of Samsung TV owners are asking for this about months now. Thanks.

I have a WD World Book NAS (v01.02.12) with Twonky Media Server v5.1.9 pre-intalled. Do you have TwonkyServer6.0.38 for Western Digital World Book NAS? How can I upgrade it to the latest version?

Thanks

I see there's now a 6.0.39, but nothing on the forum or in the release note to advise what may have changed. :(

Any info would be useful. Thanks.

How about above in this new version? By the way I found out that the subtitle menu option works with my Samsung BD-D6500 Blu-Ray player. Just not with my C6700 TV! Resume option doesn't work with both...

I think we've done everything that can be done with subtitles. Subtitles are hard to support over UPnP without access to Samsung proprietary hooks which we do not have.

Thanks. The versions that I downloaded only listed the known issues - not the actual changes. Not sure why. I looked at the RevisionHistory.txt file for Linux and Windows builds. Should I be looking somewhere else?

Not sure. I got them from the RevisionHistory.txt in the Kirkwood build, but I believe that file should be the same in all packages.

Fair enough. How about the resume option?

FYI

Here is a screenshot of my cache memory size after 21 days of uptime
The server is running ok, just thought I would pass this along
As I see people from time to time mentioning memory leak/cache size
I dont view cache as a memory leak, but it doesnt seem to adhere to set cache limits

Sadly, I totally forgot to see how much the twonky service was consuming DOH!
which is the important one in regards to memory usage
Next time though...
