TwonkyServer Revision History for 7.x

Post by phibertron » Fri Mar 11, 2011 9:42 pm

Twonky Server 7.3
================

1 New features

· Multi-user support
o Allows setup multiple users with different access rights to the Twonky Server
shares through the Twonky Server settings pages.
o By default multi-user support is disabled. When enabling multi-user support,
two accounts will be created automatically: admin and guest. The admin
account has to be used to setup new users and their access rights. Admin
has full access to the Twonky Server settings pages and to all media shares.
The guest account by default does not have any access to shares. The main
use case for this account is to grant guests access to the home network to
beam content from their own mobile device to connected renderers in the
home. The guest account does not require a login.
o In order to support legacy client devices that are not multi-user capable, a
default account can be assigned to each device. This allows, for example, to
permanently assigning the child account to the device in the children’s room.
This device will then only have access to the content visible to the user child -
without the need for a login. This setting can be over-ruled by a Twonkyenabled
control point that allows authentication.

· The webUI built in into Twonky Server has been extended to a full HTML-5 based
control point that can also be utilized as Remote UI. It supports
o Browsing of other servers
o Beaming to connected renderers
o Renderer control
o Queue management

· Twonky Control Point is directly accessible via TrayApp (for Windows version)

· Navigation tree builder
o Based on the nodes of the 5 pre-defined navigation trees users can build
their own navigation trees and assign them to client devices

2 Improvements

· Improved start up behavior after initial scan
· Improved support for B&O’s EZ2; enabled ”skip to next”
· Improved support for XBOX One
· Improved device detection for Samsung TV F series (2013)
· Improved album art behavior
· Improved Airplay support to MacOS version
· Improved iTunes playlist handling on MacOS version
· Improved the import time of playlists
· Improved the interoperability with Roku devices. Pairing is available from Twonky Server's web configuration pages

3 Bug fixes

· Fixed a bug for audio 3GPP that were wrongly detected and served as video 3GPP
· Fixed a bug for wrongly handled UTF8 strings in JPEGs
· Fixed a bug where Twonky Server started too many threads on the Mac version
· Fixed hang of Twonky Server during shutdown when an Airplay device was in the network.
· Fixed a bug for DSD files where the duration was always shown as zero
· Fixed a crash when removable media (e.g. USB-stick) was removed
· Fixed a bug for recognizing f4v files correctly
· Fixed memory consumption for idle Twonky Servers
· Fixed interoperability for webUI with IE8

· MacOS: Fixed: If the server was terminated from the tray app, then the configuration UI was started in a browser and the server was still reachable from the network.
· MacOS: Fixed: Twonky Server didn’t terminate on rpc/stop and rpc/restart crashed the server
· MacOS: Fixed automatic iTunes playlists import
· Fixed a bug where changes in nested folders were sometimes ignored by Twonky Server
· Linux: Fixed a bug where Twonky Server sometimes crashed when timeseek information was available

4 Known issues

· There can be problems in the navigation tree if there is more than one album with the
same album name. By implementing a way to automatically determine correct Album
and Artist one would lose a tremendous amount of memory and Twonky Server will
become slow. In case you detect an album container with songs from different
albums by navigating through music/album please use music/artist/album for your
navigation to get the albums properly separated. Or, as other users have done,
consider retagging the according albums.

· When updating from 7.2.6 or from 7.2.7 on a Windows system with “preserve settings”
some files will be created directly in the main directory of your system (e.g. C:\).
These are the backup files of the update process. After successful update you
can delete these files without any risk of losing data (files are named n.tms.dat,
7.2.6, db.info, db.info-bak and twonky-locations).

· In multi user mode the PS3 only can show the “Access Denied” message in the
video navigation. It will display 'no tracks' and 'no images' on picture and respectively
music. It should display the “Access denied” message there as well.

· The Tray App for MAC does not have a direct link to the web-based control point
(yet). For the time being, you have to go to the settings page first.

· Playlists that contain URLs starting with “http://” do not work. If you have playlists that
heavily rely on such URL, you may want to defer the update till the next version.

· Some terms in the webUI always show up in English independent of the selected
language.

5 Other

· Access to Online Services through Twonky Server will be discontinued in the near
future and replaced by Cloud features in Twonky SDK. In the current version of
Twonky Server, the option is already turned off by default. You can turn it on again
by changing the ini-file. Set “disablemytwonky=0” and the Online Services are back.
However, in one of the next versions we will remove this feature completely.

· The status information about the scanned files on the settings pages (item count)
has been changed. The status pages now only show how many *local* files have
been scanned. Aggregated or duplicated content is no longer taken into account.
When you browse the content you will see – as before – aggregated content (if
configured accordingly) and duplicates will be filtered out.

Twonky Server 7.2.8
================

1 Improvements

· Improved the DSD file scanner; scanning broken files no longer crash the server
· Improved the embedded jpeg-scaler. The rotation flag is now set correctly
· MacOS: Fixed a number of delays in various areas of Twonky Server.
· Support now BIG5 encoding for WAV files. Requires the correct codepage parameter being set.
· Add subtitle (closed caption) support for newest LG and Samsung TV sets.

2 Bug fixes

· Fixed a bug where changes in nested folders were sometimes ignored by Twonky Server
· Fixed a bug where servers named with -- (double minus) were not correctly handled for aggregation
· Fixed a bug for audio 3GPP that were wrongly detected and served as video 3GPP
· Toggling mute in the Beam UI of Twonky Server no longer sets the volume to 100%
· Fixed a bug in the webUI that went unresponsive when the navigation trees were changed
· Fixed a bug for DSD files where the duration was always shown as zero

Twonky Server 7.2.7
================

New feature
- Added support for DSD file format
- Added new ini-properties:
- limit_devdesc_responses_ua: Use this to set a comma separated list of allowed user agent strings.
If this is set, then only clients that use an allowed user agent will be able to get the device description from Twonky Server.
- ini-property: limit_devdesc_responses_ip: Use this to set a comma separated list of allowed IP addresses.
If this is set, only clients connecting from an allowed IP address will be able to get the device description from Twonky Server.
- New ini-property disablealbumart_fallback to define album art behavior:
If a content item does not contain embedded album art, Twonky Server can use album art from other media items within corresponding album.
Default value is 0, i.e. album art fall-back enabled for music and videos.
disablealbumart_fallback=0
If set to 1, album art fall-back for music will be disabled i.e. the embedded album art for one music title isn't used for all music items in the view.
If set to 2, album art fall-back for videos will be disabled i.e. the embedded album art for one video item isn't used for all video items in the view.
If set to 3, album art fall-back for both music and videos will be disabled.

Known issues
- Same named albums and sorting behavior of Twonky Server: When you have same named albums from different artists in your media collection and you chose the "Album" navigation the titles from both albums will end up together in one view. We checked how to improve this behavior but each fix we found would have caused tremendous performance problems so we decided not to offer a fix. In case you have this problem we can only suggest that you manually change the metadata of the album(s) that cause this behavior.

What’s New in Twonky Server v7.2.6
============================

Improvements

- Improved Web UI behavior when the "ignored directories" were changed.
- Improved the installation behavior. If upload or aggregation is disabled for Twonky Server neither the upload nor the mirror folders get created. This is only visible at initial installation - if the upload or mirror folders are present from a former installation of Twonky Server they won't get removed.
- The upload and mirrored folders are configurable now. The new properties can be set in the ini-file and are named:
uploadmusicdir
uploadpicturedir
uploadvideodir
mirroredmusicdir
mirroredpicturedir
mirroredvideodir
If upload and mirroring is disabled no respective folder will be created by Twonky Server.
- We cleaned up the navigation tree. Therefore we eradicated some categories which were duplicates. No functionality was lost with the changes but Twonky Server got faster and uses less memory now.
- Improved Twonky Server’s subtitle support. The server is now able to add subtitle files after the content has already been scanned. Previously, subtitle files had to be placed there prior to the content.
This improvement works only for systems that support file system event notifications.

Bug fixes

- Fixed a bug at browsing the online videos which sometimes led to long response times
- Fixed a bug at the Web UI which always indicated that Twonky Server is streaming although the streaming was stopped. Note: This behavior can still be seen on devices with huge buffers.

Improvements
- When installing on a Windows system it's possible to choose that Twonky Server isn't lauched directly after installation. Settings option can be found in "custom installation".
- Improved the standby mode of TwonkyServer:
To enter Standby Mode invoke RPC rpc/enter_standby_mode. On entering Standby Mode TwonkyServer will send byebye messages to the network to indicate to clients it is no longer available

TwonkyServer Revision History for 3.x

Post by phibertron » Fri Mar 11, 2011 9:55 pm

What's new in Version 3.1
--------------------------
new Features:
+ magic playlist resolver which can OS independent find files in playlists,
you no longer need to edit your playlists if you juts copy them to Linux or
on a NAS
+ iTunes database can also now be stored on a NAS and used on a PC with iTunes
and "served" in parallel by the Server on the NAS without modifications
+ Shoutcast radio station selection
Now it is very simple to have your favourite Shoutcast stations
available via TwonkyMedia. just go to http://www.shoutcast.com
and search/select your favourite stations there. Save the
displayed web page somewhere under the content dirs of the
server (preferred solution is to have a special folder name
like "Shoutcast stations").
When saving the web page, make sure that the title contains
somewhere the word "Shoutcast", e.g. name it
"My Shoutcast rock songs.htm"
On the next rescan the server will find this file and present
the stations under
Internet radio
-> - Favourite Stations-
-> My Shoutcast rock songs
+ new event based API for rescans
+ Internet Radio support for XBOX, Internet Radio playlists are now listed
under playlists

Changes:
o improved DivX streaming for D-Link DSM 320

+ multilanguage support
+ performance enhancements
+ memory enhancements (normal mem usage reduced by 50%)

+ transcoding for FLAC and mp3 (this is based on LGPL programs, flac and lame. If these programs
are not part of this distribution and you need transcoding from mp3 to wav/LPCM or from
FLAC to wav you should download these prgrams and place them in the same dir as the
TwonkyMedia runtime (TwonkyMedia.exe).
See http://flac.sourceforge.net/ and http://lame.sourceforge.net/)
+ support for new macro %KEYWORD (we use the Keywords tag to read in special comments - for iTunes

What's new in Version 2.9
---------------------------
new Features:
+ Windows installer
+ MAC installer
+ Live365 Internet Radio support (by playlists)
+ Folder names can be prefixed by a string to identify them in the navigation
tree (see folderprefix option)
+ new followlinks option for UNIX/Linux systems
+ Dreambox and LinVDR support
Note: the videos served can not be handled by all clients,
e.g. Dreambox can be handled by DSM-320 and TG100, but LinVDR
seems to play only on DSM-320

Changes:
o improved video streaming
o improved support for Go.Video (picture)
o trial version works now for 30 minutes
o scantime can be set to -1 to prevent scanning at all (use DB only)
o removed options: videoi, idxdir, musicbuffer, picturebuffer, videobuffer
o improved RTP for Netgear, time left is now displayed, ff and rew works now
for mp3 files, wma files can be played (but no ff, rew)
o less update events send to clients to take care for "not overloading" clients
with to much info, like the MCW770 that could not play songs any longer because
it was refreshing its display ;-)
o the linux version -glibc2.2 is no longer there, because the server is now allways
linked against glibc-2.2 - so it will run on old and new distributions
o better support for search on TG100 now

Bug fixes:
- MPEG4 playback works again (mp4 mime-type was broken)
- search now works allways on DSM-320
- playlists are now allways played in playlist order ;-)

stations independent of their genre. Info on genres can be found at the Shoutcast web site.
+ param -rawradiogenre [n] = to display the genres as they are retrieved direct from Shoutcast
+ param -rtpport [n] = set port for rtp server, 0 for dynamicall port allocation (for Netgear MP101 only)
+ param -netgearrtp [n] = set this to 1 to use more stable RTP streaming for Netgear MP101

TwonkyServer Revision History 1.x

Post by phibertron » Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:04 pm

What's new in Version 1.07:
---------------------------
+ we attended a UPnP plugfest and are now compliant to Philips streamium devices
+ new Winamp plugin for a renderer - now Winamp can play files from the server
when used together with a Control Point like the one from the Intel Tools
+ the Winamp plugin can be configured to a specific IP address in the Winamp.ini file
+ fixed playlist suppport for UNIX version
+ for album we now give the client a M3U file, it should be easier for clients
now to play complete album's and not only one track.
Unfortunately the Netgear MP101 does not make use of this feature.

What's new in Version 1.06:
---------------------------
+ quite a number of Bugs fixed in LINUX version -> tested on Redhat, Debian and Suse
+ new option -ip to bind the server to a specific NIC
+ new options to give server side sort strings for containers, music tracks
and pictures, playlist sort order is never altered (see -ds -ms -ps)
+ default sort for track now uses track number as main sort criteria
+ enhanced threading
+ more robust HTTP handling
+ rescans directory tree every 5 minutes

What's new in Version 1.05:
---------------------------
+ LINUX version!
+ better support for low latency networks which prevented browsing after
server detection (HTTP packet fragmentation)
+ standalone server automatically rescans shared directories and updates
server tree
+ supports now more formats of m3u playlists
+ server with better organized tree (deeper) now available for a small
registration fee

What's new in Version 1.04:
---------------------------
+ support for Shoutcast Radio streaming (tested with MP101 and
Sony Network Media-Receiver)
+ the standalone version can be installed as NT-Service which runs
in the background (-install and -uninstall parameter)
+ support for special characters in titles
+ unsorted requests are now translated as "sort alphabetically"
+ support for the MP101 search function
+ support for the searchable attribute for containers
+ new parameter: -nopictures for standalone server to limit the tree
of the server to audio files only

What's new in Version 1.03:
---------------------------
- Disabled chunked encoding support for compability with Netgear MP101

What's new in Version 1.02:
---------------------------
+ Support for pictures in the standalone server version (not in the Winamp plugin)
+ Support for the new Intel Tools 1.0.1515.27622, which require CR/LF in XML files

Features
--------
- Full fledged UPnP Media Server for audio, picture and video files
- supports Browse and Search action
- support for Playlists
- support for Shoutcast radio stations
- DHWG compliance

I dont know why either

But I took a look at the main sire and noticed that 6.0.38 has been released
I assume your are looking for one the NAS builds of 6.0.37
which is mostly what the above download links are posted for

I am guessing on this
but the release notes for 6.0.38 say that it is an
Important security and stability related bug fix
so I am gonna go out on a limb and guess
that they pulled it from web, as to protect themeselves and their customers
just a guess though

and if your looking for the 6.0.38 link for NAS builds,
it hasnt been posted or created yet

Thank you very much for your answer. I realized too, that it could be due to critical fix in that version. So I will be waiting for the 6.0.38 NAS version patiently :)

I just remembered this

How is this a new feature, it was there in 7.0.0?
Must be that it now works again or it works on folders now...
What’s New in TwonkyServer v7.0.5

1 New Feature

· Adding .nomedia to a folder or a file name prevents TwonkyServer from sharing the content

m3u playlist support broken?

Post by rom69 » Mon May 12, 2014 10:04 am

Hello together,

I'm using m3u playlists for internet radio with Linux PC (x64) build, which worked fine before. Now I'm experiencing the following problems with the same m3u files:
- Rev. 7.2.7: m3u playlist will be indexed, but cannot be played
- Rev. 7.3-RC4: m3u playlists will even not be indexed anymore

Is this problem known and is there a solution coming?

Regards
rom69

Hello,
I cannot get to http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/7.3-RC4/. Do you know if there will be a 64bit version of the Linux Twonky server?

@phibertron

Thanks so much. I have those. I was wondering if they are coming out with 7.3 Full release. The 7.3 RC was a mess on my system. It performed very poorly

your welcome
yeah, that is the question, when are they going to release nas versions of 7.3?
I wish I had an answer, I haven't heard back on any of my emails to twonky,
nor have I seen them reply to any posts in the forum
I think they took the summer off or something

Thank you phibertron for keeping the list and links updated!

I downloaded 7.3-RC4 last week and installed in on my linkstation pro dedicated for testing. As the link doesn't work anymore I guess that the twonky people have moved forward in the meantime, but nevertheless:

7.3-RC4 starts scanning the directory structure, but never indicates any found files, at the same time memory consumption is slowly increasing. My license code is not accepted (it's always in twonkysever-default.ini, tried to input it via the webinterface, directly into twonkysever.ini and via .../rpc/set_option?cdkey).
Using the last option I could read the key back via .../rpc/get_option?cdkey, but the field cdkey in twonkyserver.ini is always empty/deleted. Of course I tried restarting twonky and the even the linkstation itself.

After switching off the interesting multiuser feature the webinterface didn't come up again, but the process stayed alive using 160% of the poor device' memory... killed the process and waiting for the next version.

Your Welcome

I found 7.3-RC4 and 7.3 for windows to have stability issues
My current setup is running 7.2.8

As for the key issue, hard to say whats going on there
Since the 7.3-RC4 are not up anymore, and there are no nas versions of 7.3
I'd say they are most likely working on fixing issues
