iTunes/Twonky issues
I recently picked up a Cambridge Stream Magic 6. Since I run a Mac, I have to also run Twonky in order for the Cambridge to be able to see it as a UPnP server, and I'm experiencing two issues, one with iTunes and one with Twonky:
1) I don't seem able to pick up the cover art in iTunes. I've tried ripping in .wav and .aiff so far. The .aiff files aren't even seen. FWIW, I consider the cover art issue to be comparatively minor.
2) Twonky only seems to see whatever I've ripped as a mixed jumble of all the songs under a single "unknown" album title. Of course, the Cambridge only sees it as displayed in Twonky.
I confess to being somewhat inept at the whole computer audio thing, although I've been dabbling in audio for 30 years. The sound quality streaming from the Mac is actually better than I had hoped for, but the jumble is just not going to cut it - I really don't care to have a mix of Jethro Tull and Allegri's Miserere.
Suggestions/ideas as to how to approach these issues are welcome.
TIA

Re: iTunes/Twonky issues
what version of twonky are you using?
I would first check to see what the twonky web interface is showing for coverart and metadata of the media
if the twonky web interface shows things correctly
go to "Settings" in the twonky web interface, and then "Sharing", and then "Media Receivers"
what does the Cambridge show as its "Media Receiver Type" ?
note: clients under media receivers are listed by mac address, as ip is dynamic

Re: iTunes/Twonky issues
The version is 7.2.3-RC1.
A media receiver type is not shown Just two dashes separated by a slash as shown: " -/- "
Since the mixup is shown on the Mac before the Cambridge ever comes into the picture, can the Stream Magic be part of the issue? It's just showing the media as it exists on the computer.

There are no clients listed at all?Vindmolle wrote: A media receiver type is not shown Just two dashes separated by a slash as shown: " -/- "
or the Cambridge is being shown with the "Media Receiver Type" as "-/-" ?
So the web interface on the computer is showing the incorrect or lack of metadata on the items?Vindmolle wrote: Since the mixup is shown on the Mac before the Cambridge ever comes into the picture,

It's just showing the media as it exists on the computer.
If this is the case, this would be the first place to get showing correctly
if the web interface doesn't show things correctly, then nothing else will
What format is the music in?
as not all formats support all types of tagging
What was used to tag the items, iTunes or other?
as it is possible that the they might have been tagged with an old standard

Re: iTunes/Twonky issues
Okay, so I think I have the cover art issue figured out, but the Twonky/iTunes interface is still fubar, far as I can tell.
I dumped what I had in iTunes and started fresh. Ripped a CD in .aiff, and the album shows up fine as an album in iTunes, but not so in Twonky. The album info doesn't seem to be making the trip - all track numbers are zero, and the album, artist, and genre are all unknown. The computer is a Macbook Air that was purchased in December of last year, i.e. fairly new, and the software for iTunes is up to date.

Re: iTunes/Twonky issues
With Twonky running, what does the following url return for you in safari
http://127.0.0.1:9000/rpc/get_option?ituneslib
It should return the path to the xml file that is the iTunes library

Re: iTunes/Twonky issues
Since you are using Twonky 7.2.3-RC1 (which is a release candidate)
I'm hoping/betting that the issue with that build
I would uninstall your current install and would first try to use the 7.2.8 version
and see if doing so helps with the issue

Re: iTunes/Twonky issues
I know you mentioned that you used iTunes to do the taggingphibertron wrote: What format is the music in?

as it is possible that the they might have been tagged with an old standard
but I figured I would elaborate more on this
As an example from this thread
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3254357
In theory, twonky should be reading the iTunes xml file for all of its data
it "might" be only using it to find the path to a file, and then doing its own metadata scan on the actual file
im not 100% that it does or does not
hopefully using a newer version of twonky helps with the issue you are experiencing

I'll try your uninstall/reinstall a later version suggestion. Hopefully the license key will work, because at this point I'm not much inclined to pay for a new one, not knowing whether or not the program is going to work for me.

Re: iTunes/Twonky issues
if the license key is for 7 it will work for any version of 7.x.x, and will also usually work for any version of 6.x.x

Re: iTunes/Twonky issues
The newer Twonky version appears to have been the solution, phibertron. Thanks for the assistance, and for seeing it through!
