Zyxel NSA320s
LG Smart TV
Hello all
I apologise for being a total NooB but I hope someone can help.
I have just purchased a Zyxel NSA 320. I have put some movies on there to stream to my Sony Blu Ray s790.
The NSA has Tonky installed. The NSA firmware says it is the current firmware.
However for some reason the media server (twonky) doesnt seem to be streaming properly to the Blu Ray. It identifies the Blu Ray player as a Blu Ray player and not as something that can stream DLNA and therefore the files show as corrupted.
It is possible to go into the Twonky streaming settings and change the format, and it works particularly well if you choose generic DLNA or LG DLNA player and then it all streams without a problem.
However if the NSA 320 is switched off it loses these settings and so when it turns back on it is not as simple as simply asking it to stream again.
Please can you help ? Is there a way to make the settings stay or to make the default setting of Sony Blu Ray include DLNA streaming ??
Thanks

Re: Zyxel NSA320s and Sony Blu Ray s790
There are some things that can be done, but...
To do them one has to be able to SSH into the NAS
so that some twonky config changes could be made
Zyxel, does not make being able to SSH into the nas easy
This is what I googled on gaining SSH access to the nas
http://zyxel.nas-central.org/wiki/SSH_server

OK having a read, I am on the newest firmware so the SSH has been disabled.
But I think I am probably able to do the Telnet back door. Is it still possible to do something from there ?

if you are able to get in
on the nas go to the twonky devicedb sony folder where the client profiles are located
and then rename the extension from .xml to .old or dot whatever you want, just not .xml
restart the server for changes to take effect

That sounds very easy. However I am clearly doing something wrong.
How do I do the Telnet login ? Am I missing something ?
Because otherwise I am really struggling.
Thanks

Re: Zyxel NSA320s and Sony Blu Ray s790
Hi
Sorry for bothering you, I understand if you get fed up and hit your head on a desk, I expect it is a bit like when I tried to fix my mother in law's laptop over the phone, and it took 5 minutes before I realised that when I was telling her to "right click" she wasn't actually clicking on anything.
Anyway.
This is what I have managed to do. I have opened a telnet window (seems you have to activate it on Windows 7) and i have logged on to the NSA box using the admin password and also the root password.
When I log on with admin it tells me (using pwd) I am in the directory /home/shares
When I log on with the root password, it tells me I am /root
I can see loads of other directories, and they have hundreds more inside them.
Any idea where the sony devicedb is - ie the path ?
Thanks

being logged in as root
I might be in "/usr/local/twonky/resources/devicedb/Sony" or "/usr/local/twonkyserver/resources/devicedb/Sony"
The file you are looking to rename is probably one of these
If your device is detected as "Sony Blu-Ray Player" then its "Sony_Blu-Ray_Home_Theater.xml"
If your device is detected as "Sony Blu-Ray Home Theater" then its "Sony_Blu-Ray_Player.xml"
you might be able to find its path with the find command
note: there is a period in the below example, it means to start from the root path

You are a star. Thank you.
Right I have found it. I seem to have 2 of them.
usr/local/dmsf/binary/resources/devicedb/Sony
and
ram_bin/usr/local/dmsf/binary/resources/devicedb/Sony
I found them by using the find command and searching for the Sony Blu Ray player .xml.
However they are read only so it won't let me rename them.
Is this a problem ?
And which one do you think it will be ?

Sorry, should have said, there is a path:
usr/local/dmsf/binary/twonkyserver
and ram_bin/usr/local/dmsf/binary/twonkyserver
But it wont let me change directory to twonky server

Re: Zyxel NSA320s and Sony Blu Ray s790
Ah
I had a look at the read only issue. Yes that is a problem because it looks very complicated and I did not follow all of it.
If I understand, I can try to make the file writeable by doing the command
chmod 775 /(the path to the file I want to change the permissions)
so presumably
chmod 775 /usr/local/dmsf/binary/resources/devicedb/Sony
However if there is some sneaky code that makes it not that easy or makes it change it back afterwards then I have no idea how to fix it, like I said I tried to keep up with the conversation but definitely got lost along the way (ie what the heck is a bindsum ??)
I fully expect it to say that it cannot change the file to writable like what happened in that other thread.
If, in some minor miracle, it is able to change it and amend it, would it work to rename the Sony_Blu-Ray_Player file to something else, then copy the Sony Media Receiver profile and rename that to Sony_Blu-Ray_Player so that it chooses a profile that works?
Anyway thanks again for the help. I will try the chmod command but won't hold my breath as it looks like pesky Zyxel will have it locked down a bit.

chmod isn't going to cut it, as the file system is mounted as read only from sysdisk.img
In that post I referenced they are able to mount it as RW like this
look at the last 5 posts
mkdir /tmp/loop0
mount /dev/loop0 /tmp/loop0 -o rw
But.....
There is most likely as script like the referenced in that post, /etc/init.d/rcS.210
that does and MD5 checksum of the img file, its different, game over
which begs the question, can one edit that file to get around the issue?

OK
I did that command, and it said that it was read only
I did it again and got this:
# mount /dev/loop0 /tmp/loop0 -o rw
mount: block device /dev/loop0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/loop0 already mounted or /tmp/loop0 busy
mount: according to mtab, /dev/loop0 is already mounted on /tmp/loop0
Both the directory /usr/local/dmsf/binary/resources/devicedb/Sony
And the .xml files are still only read only.
And as for your question about editing that file to get over the issue if it does check and see if anything is different ? No I honestly don't think I can. I am just about managing this on telnet just by copying what you and others have written, but we are very near the end of my knowledge and ability I reckon.
If we can get it to amend the file to at least see if it will leave it then YAY

Re: Zyxel NSA320s and Sony Blu Ray s790
bummer, I'll peek around the web and see what others have been able to accomplish
I would see if contacting zyxel might help, probably not
But here is something to ponder,
disable the built in twonky,
install Fun Plug,
install and run your own version of twonky via fun plug abilities
But it wouldn't be licensed unless you have a key already that you bought
http://nas-tweaks.net/384/installation- ... s-devices/
the only way I could see getting around the license issue,
would be to copy out the contents of "/usr/local/dmsf/binary/"
instead of doing the wget from that guide
this way you would be using the one already from your nas,
just running in a different folder

Thanks again for your help.
I have contacted Zyxel. They have sent me a new firmware. That doesnt help. And now they have asked for screenshots and whether removing it from the list and adding it again works (they must think this is my first Rodeo !!)
So I am not holding out much hope for them unless they send me a firmware with writable files
I have no idea how to run a fun plug. I have seen someone somewhere mention there is a step by step guide to running serviio but even the comments for that were that it was quite tricky.
I will have a look and see
