Some clients support only external subs, while others only support embedded
and there are probably those that support both
Then there is on which format are they supported, mkv, mp4, etc.

before going nuts trying to troubleshoot
Its best to know what the client does and doesn't support
usually by looking at the manual, but sometimes they don't say either way
which is when one is forced to do a lot of searching and forum reading to figure it out

Dear all,
The devices support both types of subtitles, external and embedded. Including the tv. The files that I try to play are mkv mostly. Serviio server which I have also tried has an lg profile that suits all of my needs and all devices work ok. The strange is that the TV which is an older model, LW650S, plays the files ok, and the other two do not.

Version 7.3 twonky

The serviio profile is the lg tv / player.

P.s. Thank you for your responses.

Your Welcome

This is just an example, of the chaos that ensues from trying to get things working
And in the end, once the firmware one the tv was updated, all was well
and no changes were needed in twonky to make it work

External .srt not showing
http://twonkyforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&p=44244#p44244

So the first thing, is make sure your firmware is up to date

I took a look at the LG client profile in Twonky 7.3.0 and 7.2.8

They both contain this
<MimeTranslations>
<MimeTypeMapping>
<In>application/x-srt</In>
<Out>text/srt</Out>
</MimeTypeMapping>
</MimeTranslations>
But in 7.2.8 there are actually two profiles
One has this and the other doesn't
The one in 7.3.0 does have this
<DeviceQuirks>
<Quirk>STOP_WORKAROUND</Quirk>
</DeviceQuirks>
One thing to try, is to see if removing the quirk helps at all
any changes to client profiles require a server restart

The client profiles for the LG are located here

\TwonkyServer\resources\devicedb\LG

You could also see if using the "Generic Media Receiver" client profile helps

Also,

Are you 100% sure that Serviio isn't transcoding them?

I tried the workaround with the xmls without luck. One thing I noticed is that if I choose a folder to share and also choose to share only video, then only if the video has embedded subtitles is shown in the players. If it has not embedded and only external srt it is not shown. If I choose "All content types" then all videos are shown. Also from usb sticks and drives, the srt files are also shown and can be selected, which is not happening while streaming from twonky.

I cannot be 100% sure about serviio, I had chosen not to transcode.

Also the serviios xml is as follows:

<Profile id="8" name="LG TV / player" extendsProfileId="1">
<Detection>
<HttpHeaders>
<friendlyName.dlna.org>LG.*</friendlyName.dlna.org>
</HttpHeaders>
</Detection>
<!-- ResourceTransportProtocolHandler>org.serviio.upnp.protocol.http.transport.LGProtocolHandler</ResourceTransportProtocolHandler -->
<MediaFormatProfiles>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/mp4" name="">AVI</MediaFormatProfile>
</MediaFormatProfiles>
<!--
Transcoding doesn't seem to work and some files can be played natively:
http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php? ... 914#p26273
<Transcoding>
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
<Matches container="matroska" aCodec="dca" />
</Video>
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" >
<Matches container="flv" />
<Matches container="asf" vCodec="wmv2"/>
<Matches container="rm" />
<Matches container="wtv" />
</Video>
</Transcoding>-->
<HardSubsTranscoding>
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" />
</HardSubsTranscoding>
<Subtitles>
<SoftSubs mime-type="text/srt" />
</Subtitles>
</Profile>

and the profile 1 mentioned is as follows:

<Profile id="1" name="Generic DLNA profile">
<ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder>org.serviio.upnp.service.contentdirectory.GenericDLNAMessageBuilder</ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder>

The serviio profile shows this
<Subtitles>
<SoftSubs mime-type="text/srt" />
</Subtitles>
<Subtitles>
<SoftSubs mime-type="text/srt" />
<HardSubs>
<RequiredFor container="*" />
</HardSubs>
</Subtitles>
And the twonky profile has this
<MimeTranslations>
<MimeTypeMapping>
<In>application/x-srt</In>
<Out>text/srt</Out>
</MimeTypeMapping>
</MimeTranslations>
Which are doing the same task

The first test is to see if what happens if you remove this in twonky

I tried to remove the lines in the xml without anything to happen. I will buy the zyxel tomorrow and try from there too. I'm gonna try some previous versions of twonky too and post the results.

I would start with 7.2.8

I keep a list of known download links here

and a backup of them here

Goodday,

i tried and installed 7.2.8. In the LG folder there are two xml, with the difference you noticed. I tried both with no luck. I'm gonna try with earlier versions. Could it be the format of the disk? I use it under windows with NTFS. I don't think so. tomorrow I will receive the nas and make further actions, I hope we come to a solution soon.

Hi again,
The NAS is successfully installed, all good. The twonky version on it is 7.2.8. Unfortunatelly there is no way to play the files on BH9530TW... I managed and opened a file server, but the player does not have this feature.. The media player is capable of it, so in the end I can watch them this way. I'm gonna try some other profiles too, but when I choose them it keeps returning to its 1st profile, I mean that if I select the LG player and for its profile Samsung TV, it saves the changes and then it returns to LG profile after I play a file.
Any thoughts about the whole matter?

When you make the change, are you clicking the save button?
Prior to 7.2.x one could force a client choice to stick, via config file
But to do this in 7.2.x and 7.3.x, one has to resort to drastic measures
which involve removing the xml for files and or sometimes adjusting existing ones

Hi again after some time,
Yes I save my choises.
I tried several things only inthe NAS twonky server, but things are more complicated here. I have not been a friend with command prompt for a while and it seems that many things are made through it. I cannot find the folder with the profiles. I found one that has some .db files but cannot find the specific ones I need. All the profiles I chose had no result.

I have enabled nfs service in the nas and most of my devices play it through samba. The BD player, which is mainly used for movies, especially 3d, does not support samba though, only dlna...
Any fresh ideas tha might help ?

Yeah there is no setting within twonky that tells you where it is running from
it just knows where to put its working/cache data which you seem to have found

If you look /etc/init.d
there "might" be a shell script that starts twonky, and it might tell you where twonky is installed
by looking at the code in the script that launches it

Ok I found the files. I tried all of them, no luck. Do you know any place that I can download them from the previous versions? I think that I might try the lg ones from twonky s previous versions, to see if anything works. I might find a way to install serviio thought. It seems the only one working so far. Any more ideas? Thank you for your concern.

After many hours of search and many, real MANY trial and failure, nothing happened. No solution. :( :evil:
Tried a workaround of serviio instead. All work fine. I'll keep serviio.
Too bad.
Hope it will be fixed and try then.

A final question: Although twonky came with zyxel nsa 325v2, i cannot find a way to update it. Is there a way?

Thank you for your time and your answers.
