Re: Twonky Server 8.4.1 released
I am a little confused over your version numbering.
I have Twonky Server 8.4-2, running on 2 QNAP Servers.
This I had downloaded in March.
Is the current version 8.4.1, a newer release, or was the previous named incorrectly inside the qpkg package for the QNAP Install?

8.4.1 is newer than 8.4-2
Re: Twonky Server 8.4.1 released
Hi. Is there a "correct" procedure to update from a version which used the previous licensing scheme (such as Twonky Server 8.3 running under Linux)? The new scheme does not like my forum login, and I also tried creating a new one for the Lynx Technology login that the server offers, but had no luck with that either. Does it impose some unstated restriction on the range of characters permissible for user names and / or passwords? Also, the email responses from the automated login process are very terse - Outlook generally decides that they are phishing emails and so filters them appropriately and does not allow embedded links to be used.
Right now, this new licensing scheme looks like a completely backwards step and serves only to inconvenience users.
It's hard to recommend this software to others (as I and my company have done for many years) when we can't make it work ourselves!

Re: Twonky Server 8.4.1 released
So, to answer my own question...
And 8.5 then allows me to re-enter my license key and set up the server. And I see that I am allowed up to 3 instances of the server, although it is unclear where they are on the same hardware, or may be spread across different hardware but at the same external IP address (i.e. at the same location).
I still think some migration advice would have been helpful, especially for those who may have made other changes to their .ini files, as I do for working folders, port numbers, etc., but documentation has never been a strong point with Twonky (and I have been using it since 4.4.something).
Yes, it did. One of the fixes in the new 8.5 release is to allow the handling of "special" characters in passwords. In my view there should be nothing special about any regular character in the code range 0x21 to 0x7f being used in passwords in this day and age, but what do I know...S80_UK wrote:Does it impose some unstated restriction on the range of characters permissible for user names and / or passwords?
