Linksys routers as twonky servers?

I was searching the web to research an old linksys wireless radio.

I cam across some forums that were older, so I didn't bump the posts, but they were talking about
installing Twonky server onto dd-wrt devices and regular routers such as wrt54g/gs.

Can someone clarify they "might" be refering to and if it is possible to install the server on a router such as a dd-wrt device.
