Display format problem while streaming video

Post by SchmidbW » Thu Mar 27, 2008 7:11 pm

Hello forum members!

I hope someone has a hint for this problem I encountered:
Several videofiles (MPEG2 MP@ML, 720x576, 16:9, PAL) recorded via my Sony DVD-Camcorder are displayed in the wrong aspect ratio (not 16:9 but flattened like cinemascope and people being rather broad-faced ) or keep changing from 16:9 to cinemascope and back every few seconds.
My analysis up to now is:
1. The wrong aspect ratio appears only while streaming the file from NAS (Twonky 4.4.4); it is not present after burning a DVD with the file or playing the file with the windows media player. The display is okay too if I use a 4:3 ratio while recording with the camcorder (what I don´t like)
2. It is not a problem of a re-rendered file (I use Ulead Media Studio - same with original files from the camcorder
3. I tested it with serval displays (Beamer, 16:9 LCD-TV etc) - everywhere the same
4. I tested several media clients (Zyxel, ZIOVA) - same problem
5. I took the file to a friend with another NAS/streaming server (not Twonky!) = the file was displayed correctly in 16:9 - no problems!

So ist seems to me it is really a problem with the streaming server - but the answer of Twonky-support was short: "problem of the media client". I dont´t believe this after my testing...

Has anybody an idea?
Are there any parameters in Twonky config-files which may help?
If it all fails: Should I deactivate Twonky on the 209 and run another streaming software (and which one??)

Thank you for your help - I am rather disappointed ...

My system:
QNAP Ts-209p with latest firmware (last actualisation yesterday); TwonkyVision 4.4.4
Tested media clients: Zyxel DMA-1000, ZIOVA CS510
