compilationsdir

Post by dilbert » Mon Nov 02, 2009 10:09 am

Hi,

how can I get the parameter compilationsdir in the ini-file working? I'm using version 5.0.68. This parameter still exists in the ini-file, but i can't identify any functionality in the display trees. Do twonky 5.x still use this parameter or is it obsolete?

Thanks

Hi

I'm afraid that it is broken in 5.0.X series; it simply doesn't ignore them. That siad, there is a much better solution which can be achieved with minimal effort:

The best solution is to use the albumartist tag (you'll also need to add the albumartist container to the existing Twonky tree, or download a custom tree from this forum). You can automatically populate this tag to make it the same as your artist tag for all your single album artists and you’ll end up with a far better system than you would have by simply hiding the compilations.

For the remaining albums in your compilations folder, either leave the albumartist tag empty (so they don't appear; this will give you the same results as you would have had by hiding them in a 'compilations/samplers' folder) or even better, populate it with the name of the person who put the compilation together.

Even if you just leave the albumartist blank for the compilations, it means you can use albumartist where you would have before used artist, but that you now have an additional list of all the artists on your compilations. This makes the system many times better and it's all achievable by using an automated process to sort it out for you (e.g., using MP3TAG actions to create a 'guess' type operation to make albumartist equal artist).

I believe that the facility to ignore albums has been fixed in 5.1.1 (but I've not got 5.1.1 working on my ReadyNAS yet)

Thanks Briain,

I think that make sense.

I've tried the 5.1.1 version as well on a linux system, but without success. I got the error message views_add_or_update_object(*ppObject,pOldObject) failed which was already mentioned in the belonging thread. I hope, they will fix it soon.

Cheers
