Photo scaling and DSM-320

Post by mw3330 » Sun Mar 13, 2011 12:14 am

I have just installed TwonkServer 6 (6.0.32) as an upgrade to a (very reliable) version 4. Whilst music and videos work fine, I am having a real problem with photos now. I have 2 DSM-320's , and neither show anything but a small low res picture in the middle of the screen. Nothing I do at the server or client end seems to allow me to see a full size photo.

I remember on the old version, there was a config file that allowed me to specify the target screen size. This seems to have gone and I cannot find any advanced options that allow this to be set.

Tearing my hair out here! Any help welcome.

Config:
Server hardware : HP Desktop PC
Operating System: Windows XP
If you are running as a system service (Windows only): YES
Client(s) and their software version: DSM-320 x 2
Type(s) of media you are having problems with: JPG Photos - full res 8-10Mpxl
How many files you have in your database: Photos, ~10,000
Network type (Wired/Wireless); Wired, 1,000Mbps (Client is only 10Mbps
Other items on your network (Router make/model for example): Procurve 1GB switch

I've had a similar problem. The fix, for me, was to the edit the clients.db file in the resouces directory, underneath the main twonkymedia one (This is on Linux, Windows might be slightly different).

In here is a section for the DSM-320 (around line 200)
I changed the line that begins with TR: to:

Code: Select all

TR:JPEG872x480,JPEG120x90,MP3,WAV,WMV
The two jpeg sizes seem to be for slideshow images, and thumnails. I chose the 872x480 resolution as this matches the widescreen standard definition TV size that I'm assuming the DSM-320 outputs at.

I've set the DSM-320 to just the "Keep Original Size" photo rescaling setting.

As you've just moved from version 4, can I ask how you find the displaying of thumnails in version 6, compared to 4? I'm finding version 6 to not be quite so good. When paging through thumbnails I often have to page forward and then back to force the thumbnails to appear. This wasn't the case with version 4.
