Which version of Twonky do I buy?

Post by xman1 » Thu Aug 18, 2011 1:08 am

I currently run Twonky 4.1 on my NAS device (Kurobox-HG) and it never expired for some reason. I did not pay much attention in the past since I never used it much, but now I find myself using it more and more and need to support the creators so that they continue their work on this fine product. I am however confused as to which version I need to purchase? I see that there are two versions - old and new. What license do I purchase?

So the question is, which do I buy? Does version 6 run fine on a Kuro HG? Or should I stick with my ancient version?

If you're not having any problems with 4.x, I'd stick with it. We worked for many years to perfect that release and it is very fast, stable and customizable.

If you have a problem, I'd update to 6.0.36, which should be released in the next few days IF you can find someone who can provide you with advice on which version to use for your NAS and how to install it. I do not have access to this info.

Thanks for the info. I think I found out what I need:

http://www.twonkyforum.com/downloads/6.0.34/

Notice the Kuro Box is listed on that page with a special build! So they are continuing to make revisions for the Kuro! Coolness.

In case you care, it is a Power PC based NAS that is as much a computer as a NAS. I am running Gentoo Linux on it:

Internal Hardware
Clock Speed - 266 MHz
Embedded RAM - 128 MB
FlashROM - 4 MB
LAN Interface - 10/100/1000 Mbps

Glad you found what you needed. Thanks for posting the info above so others can benefit from it. :D

I think you'll like 6.0.34. The only major thing it doesn't have that 4.1 had was easier tree customization. We hope to one day add that back to 7.0.

Unbelievable. How do I solve this? Your payment server says this:

! The postal/zip code entered does not match the entry selected under State / Province.

Garbage! It is accurate. How do I bypass that? I can't purchase your product!

I called Digital River and they apologized for not having my zip code in their computer even though you can pop my zip code into Google maps and it comes right up. They are unable to do anything about it.

As a result, I cannot purchase your product since my billing address will not work. :?

Another thought: Do you have an alternate distributor?

Sorry about this. I can't believe Digital River has problems like this. Are you able to purchase it via PayPal? If not, please send your e-mail address to me at tmm-beta@pv.com.

Thanks. Paypal worked (I think). Of course I am still having a hard time completing my transaction:

Unfortunately, the PayPal transaction for your order XXXXXXXXX has been delayed. We will inform you as soon as we have received your payment.

Just got this email too:

Dear Valued Customer,

Your order for "TwonkyServer v6" has been received
and is being verified by our team. Your order will most likely be processed
within the next 12 hours, but in no case will it take more than 24 hours.

In order to avoid multiple charges to your credit card, please do not
resubmit your order.

It has been somewhat painful to purchase, but I think I am near the end of it now.

I may be contacting you. I just tried again through element 5 and got the same response:

Unfortunately, the PayPal transaction for your order XXXXXXXXX has been delayed. We will inform you as soon as we have received your payment.

Just for fun, I ordered a game via paypal on impulse and that worked fine. I guess I have a new game to play while I wait.

It came! OK. I have a key now so I am good. I am not sure why it takes time when the payment goes through paypal. Anyway, problem solved.

Sorry it took so long. At least you finally have a key.

I've reported the problems with Digitla River to our management.
